He is a 7th round pick. He was not going to get there any sooner. Those guys don't make the NHl early. Same with why Brown only made it at 23 (6th round pick).
If the Leafs gert a valuable guy they picked in the 7th round this will aid their cup chances even more.

Ten pages long, and we still can't get the players name spelt right in the title. Johnsson.

Thread is old and was bumped after a long time. When he came over he changed his name from Johnson to Johnsson to avoid confusion with his last name.

Edit: Meant that he clarified that his name was Johnsson when he came over from Sweden.

When he was drafted his name was spelled Johnson. I don't know if he changed his name to Johnsson or whether it was spelled incorrectly when he was drafted. Either way he clarified when he came over that it was Johnsson.

    edit:

Found this. Guess it was always a spelling error?

I think its because Western way of pronouncing that name is a lot different. (John-son vs Yon-son) I guess his friends over in Sweden may have given him some stick over it.

Waiver eligible I believe next year. So he's getting his shot then.

Haven't really paid attention to him much over the years. He's just always been "there". Who is his NHL comparison? Thx

Really well rounded offensive skill set, his shot, hands, skating and vision are all very good. Great motor too, and loves to go hard to the net despite being a smaller player. Reminds me of Conor Sheary.

Deserves a shot in the NHL, but the Leafs have a serious logjam on the wings - Leivo and Martin are both getting healthy scratched nightly. Our worst winger right now is Komarov, but Babs loves Leo, can’t see Babs benching him. Most likely Johnsson doesn’t make the team until next season.

22 points in his last 12 games in the AHL.

He's turned into a great prospect.

Fully expect him to be in the NHL next year.

It would be a shock if he didnt make the team next year. 2 winger UFA's in Komarov and JVR, it's doubtful that both will be back.

Im so high on this guy. Think he could turn out to be a fixture in our bottom 6.

Great season he's having in the AHL.
Wish he was given a look at some point during this season.

Leafs have so much talent young talent it's actually embarrassing. Johnson would be the top prospect on a lot of other teams, and we've like never heard of him here in Toronto. This is how dynasties start.

Excited to watch him in action!

With that being said, he’ll probably play on the 4th line, so won’t expect much production, but hopefully he looks good. May be a short stint in the lineup too, when Matthews comes back (sounds close) someone will have to go, and it’ll be one of Brown/Komarov/Kapanen/Johnsson - will be very tough for Johnsson to keep that spot.

Sounds like he was practicing with the 2nd PP unit. Should get the next two games anyways.

Can't wait to see how he does. It is nice that he can be used in all situations, which should increase his likelihood of staying up if he shows well. I am loving the look of the 4th line.

Another kick in the teeth to Leivo if AJ gets in and he sits. Good for AJ though, should be an exciting game for him.
