This Finnish defenseman has gotten off to a good start it seems in the NCAA, with 2 goals, 7 assists, and 9 points in his first 8 games. He's in his second year at Boston University. He also put up 39 points in 47 games in Jr-liiga a couple of years ago. He's 20, so he's well past his initial draft year.

Anybody here seen him play, who could share what they think of him? Seems to have some offensive talent looking at his numbers. Good size too.

Ahti's biggest asset is his strong shot from the point, which has been very useful on the BU power play. He has good vision when breaking the puck out and makes a good first pass. He has good size, but doesn't use it all that often. The defensive side of his game needs some work, but it's been improving.

Undrafted Free Agent in their own backyard who is succeeding. No doubt the Bruins will be keeping tabs on Oksanen & at 6'3'', 220 with his skill set he'd be an excellent add to the defensive prospect pool.

Now that Sami Salo is out for indefinite time, this kid should be in the discussion for Sochi... Am I even joking? That crappy are Finland's defensive corps right now.

Did you forget the sarcasm icon? No way this kid has a chance to crack the line up. We got better defenseman in Europe and currently in NHL/AHL...

Ahti Oksanen (Boston University)

I saw this guy play against North Dakota the other day in Boston and I liked his style and his size. I looked him up and he's doing really well in terms of points especially for a defenseman. I believe he is a sophomore by the way. Anyway can anyone give me any information on him or if he'll make the NHL if he gets signed by a team? I don't follow college hockey so forgive me if I'm late on discovering this guy! lol

Watching this kid at Frozen Fenway. Definitely has good size, solid skater, not the fastest, but not the slowest either. Would imagine that the Bruins have tabs on him.

Ahti Oksanen is also a big favorite of mine as well. Only college defenseman in the country to be leading his team in points. Good skater, cannon of a shot, power play specialist, physical, and has good size. More than likely will be picked up by an NHL team by the time he is over with his college career. Kids like him are in high demand, although I'm suprised that he wasn't drafted.

Ahti Oksanen?

Word is Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, and Pitt have scouts taking looks at him. 6'3, 207lbs, sophomore D, LH shot. Decent on the PP and PK. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him at a development camp this or next summer, would be a nice free agent pickup. Being a Boston homer, I hope we nab him, since we seem to have an inability to find decent LH d-men besides the guys we have.

Saw the guy play a few months ago in Boston against I believe ND, really liked his play and a pretty good skater for his size. I only saw one game so obviously I know almost next to nothing about in in terms of his play but I was impressed with what I did see. Hopefully Tampa Bay signs him!

Any chance Oksanen signs this season?

I'm also curious if it's 100% Kenny Morrison signs this year as well.

It appears that Ahti Oksanen moved to left wing and is currently on a line with Jack Eichel. Oksanen scored four goals in an exhibition game last weekend. Might be interesting to see if moving from defense is permanent and whether that would affect his stock with NHL clubs.

Here's the sticky thread, albeit there haven't been a ton of updates since the last round of free agent signings in April: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1004723&page=24

I posted this in that thread, but Ahti Oksanen was getting some attention last year playing defense for BU. They've since switched him to LW where he's been playing with Jack Eichel. Haven't gotten to see him outside of highlights; Oksanen got hurt early in the game against BC which was on NBCSN a couple weeks ago. Might be interesting to see which position NHL teams will project him as.
