    definitely not a two-way player:laugh:

Solid though, probably second to Kessel in offensive abilities but can also be relied upon as a leader

I was at my 6th leaf game last night against the islanders and it finally hit me.

Everyone has their role on the team. If you know your role and play it, you will succeed. That is how a team is suppose to mesh. If you try to do to much, errors occur (fan on a pass, fan on a shot, turn over the puck etc.)

My girlfriend asked the same question at the game "who is playing the best?". I couldn't even answer. All i was able to do was call out the teams errors. "Franson caused a goal, but he is still having an amazing game otherwise. Reilly made a bad pass in the defensive zone and caused a turnover but made up for it with a couple of slick moves. Phanuef mishandled a puck at some point but he wired a shot a minute later that missed the far post by 6 inches."

    My take after the game:
-Ranger gets crapped on by us fans, but he isn't even as bad as we make it sound. He makes a lot of safe secure plays. Ya he messes up but who doesn't.
-Rielly & Gardiner are gems in my eyes. So much upside that you just ignore their small mistakes (until a big mistake happens lol)
-Holland is a beauty ! watching him live did him justice.
-kessel is a god with his stick.
-JVR is an absolute BEAST in person. He's a big kid.
-Clarkson gets absolutely ***** on by fans, but he does a lot of things right and goes to places nobody else wants to.

In a nutshell, it is hard to say who is the "best". Everyone has their place.

edit: and bernier is an absolute machine. He looks like he is playing in a beer league half the time. He is extremely calm. His only downside is his height. He has a hard time sliding from post to post while he is down with someone behind the net. It happened during the game (i think the third period) and he just looked uncomfortable when sliding from his right post to his left. Short-leg syndrome.

He hasn't been as good as he was last season but he's still been very, very good. A bit streaky this year but the team is winning so whatever.

That said, I think he's one of of our poorest defensive forwards.

Beast-mode last night, he set the tone for the team on his first shift.

May have my blue and white glasses on here. But for the last two seasons i don't know how you can't consider Lupul as an elite player. Especially when he's really on his game.

His hands are unreal. How many times has he turned dmen inside out? Some of his dekes result in much longer puck possesion in the other zone for us.

Excellent 1-2 punch with Kessel. If Holland can deliver on his early promise, DAT TOP 6 :naughty:

He's been getting more minutes lately, I wonder how our team would play if we played our 1st and 2nd line a bit more (our 3rd line always seems to eat minutes and our 1st+2nd lines get about 18-19mins each).

I will say, the top PP unit of Kessel - Lupul - Van Riemsdyk is awesome.

Lupul - Smith - Clarkson line hemmed the Islanders whenever they were out on the ice, it seems.

Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson line should be a good one for us ;)

Not even close to the best player.

He's been too invisible on too many nights so far this season and seems to make a lazy play at least once a period.

Not to mention how god awful he is in the defensive-zone. Has anyone else noticed how he always ends up trying to play centre when on d? He's a winger... you have the easiest job of all defensive players, just an eye on the defenceman and get the puck out when it comes around the boards. He seems to fail miserably at both of these tasks on a nightly basis. To be fair, though, Kessel is worse at getting the puck out.

He's pretty good in the offensive zone, though. haha

Brilliant line by Carlyle. All three are decent on the faceoff dot allowing the first two to be aggressive.

Not bashing the guy but thats an easy stance for him to take since he's got the security of a longterm deal.

53 point pace combined with lackadaisical defensive play so far this season.

Well, duh. Last season he was on an incredible hot streak. If he's actually playing most of a season with second line minutes, a 50-60 point pace is what you expect from him.
