I think you should also know that it's a shame Luongo won't be remembered as he should. Playing such a long time in irrelevancy (in Florida) will hurt his legacy.
Actually it won’t but nice try ;) he had to be so good to keep those horrid teams in games. Not everyone gets a good team to carry them like Brodeur. Hopefully your one good player Hall can carry you guys. I wish him the best!

I think he's been one of the most underrated goalies in the league since all the way back to the contract drama in Vancouver. People just forgot that this guy was an elite goalie, and he's aged well.

Nice to see FLA turning it around after a suspect start. Barkov is just too good of a player to miss the playoffs every year.

Luongo is okay too I guess.

The best part of the whole thing is that when the contract was signed, the year by year salary was designed to match what he was likely to earn , if playing that year (on the assumption that elite goaltenders tend to have long careers). Its shown itself to be a fairly reasonable estimate once you factor out salary inflation.

Considering he's still an elite starter, his contract is amazing. Seeing that he is something of a fitness nut, it wouldn't shock me if he is still a starter in two years. He has gone on record that he intends to play out his contract, and he's not one to half-ass his performance. If he genuinely believes he can no longer compete for a No. 1 job, THEN he'll retire. I think he will become the new goalie standard for elite play at an "advanced" age.

If you put Luongo in the HOF without a Cup or Vezina, you have to put several others in, which I'm not against, but it would change the entire standard of HOF goalies(which is impossibly high right now).

My favorite player from those wretched Canucks teams. Still can't believe what they did to him but I'm very happy to see he's been doing so well in Florida

Wow.

I hope we have another wretched team soon.

And there were a lot of great people on those teams, have had the good fortune to deal with one or two of them.

Agreed - and Rollie deserves a mention.

Considering how weak the class of 2019 is, and how much goalie numbers are regressing in general, I think we may see a loosening of the standard as soon as 2019.

Horse shit. His career save percentage alone, when factoring in games played, is ungodly. Like, up there with the greats. Averaging a 0.920 sv% in well over 1,000 games, and still elite just months away from his 40th birthday? Those things absurd. He and Hank are the two greatest goalies post the Big 3.

Hot take.

If he stays healthy...he will win either the Hart or Vezina this year.

Calm down. First of all, save percentages are up across the board since the Big 3 played. Also, you missed my point. It's not that he doesn't belong in the HOF, it's that if he goes in, it should lead to many others getting in, too. There seems to be one standard for skaters and another for goalies that in my opinion needs to change.

This thread title gives me hope for Price but a big part of me knows that's just not something I can expect on a consistent basis...

Honestly I felt he deserved the Vezina over Brodeur that one year.

Crazy how long goalies last in the league when you consider how often they get runned at, bumped around and get rubber pucks shot at them for a living.

Like who? Curtis Joseph? Luongo has twice the amount of top 10 Save% finishes. I can't really think of anyone else in Luongo's league who has not been inducted, save Lundqvist.

Luongo even has a better S% record than Brodeur, whom many consider to be a top 5 goalie of all time. Here's how they compare.

Luongo
2000-01 NHL .920 (7th)
2001-02 NHL .915 (10th)
2002-03 NHL .918 (9th)
2003-04 NHL .931 (3rd)
2005-06 NHL .914 (9th)
2006-07 NHL .921 (4th)
2008-09 NHL .920 (5th)
2010-11 NHL .928 (3rd)
2015-16 NHL .922 (9th)
2017-18 NHL .929 (3rd)
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Brodeur
1993-94 NHL .915 (4th)
1995-96 NHL .912 (7th)
1996-97 NHL .927 (3rd)
1997-98 NHL .917 (5th)
2006-07 NHL .922 (3rd)
2007-08 NHL .920 (8th)
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Granted, a few of these seasons from Luongo he didn't play much games, at least compared to brodeur who was typically playing 70 plus games from 1995 to 2009.
