Schenn will be good, I know it. Wishing him all the best in Philly. (But not when he plays us)

On a side note, JvR has more goals than any Flyer.... LOL

I live in Kelowna and watch the Rockets, both Myers and Schenn played for the Rockets at the same time and while Schenn was Schenn, Myers looked way better at the same time, I knew it, all Rocket fans knew it and the TO scouts should have known it because they were paired together at the same time yet TO took the obviously inferior player. Makes no sense to me and makes me wonder about the quality of TO's scouts ? Schenn was obviously slow in junior as he is now and quality players usually always have skating as a foundation.

Schenn was the consensus pick. That wasn't Leafs scouts.

Every few years, you get a defensive defenseman rated really high in the draft, and every time it happens, I scratch my head wondering why. Luke Schenn was ranked in the top 5-6 almost universally, but given his rudimentary hockey skills and Myers' unique skillset, you do have to question the sanity and sobriety of those people watching.

I really don't get the defensive defenseman drafted in the top half of the first round. First you have to waste years developing them, and then the payoff isn't even that great.

Although, Filatov was the other probable option.

And we're not getting JVR for him. So it all worked out in the end. :)

I'm hoping that all those scouts have been fired but then drafting Biggs happened, why draft players with limited upside when players with more potential are available.

The consensus was that Schenn was better at the time though Myers had untapped potential.

Though to be fair, I heard that Fletcher just wanted to draft the "safest" player in order to ease the transition for the new GM, so it's not like the scouts had free reign to take risks.

Go to the Buffalo thread..most fans are regretting the deal that Myers has. He's played like a pylon so far.

I think the Leafs definitely went safe with Schenn and just wanted a banger...Schenn provided that.

I wish the Leafs give our Euro scouts more power...I'd have loved to hear what they thought of Erik Karlsson going 5th..

"Safest" is such a dangerous criteria when it comes to evaluating 18 year old kids and their potential for NHL duty. Usually breaks down into a euphemism for "low upside".

Does that makes sense, well maybe it does Fltcher made the Steen and Carlivacio trade for Stempniak trade. So people believe that Fletcher was looking for immediate relief for TO's defensive shortcomings from an 18 year old draft choice ? Dementia I tell you, dementia.

Meyers still has the tools to turn things around Schenn never had those tools and never will.

Fletcher was probably still thinking it was the early 80s and you could draft a Vezina winner straight out of high school....

What I like very much about the JVR - Schenn swap was the reason the Flyers traded him. Consistency. Their 23 year old power forward wasn't consistent enough for them... Yet he showed flashes of pure dominance. This sounds quite funny to me personally, as players like JVR usually take time to develop and find their consistency just as a defensive defenseman would. The difference being Schenn has never shown dominant play, and lacks the pedigree of JVR.

I hope you're right, JVR is a north south skater with speed but he doesn't appear to me to have a lot of east west mobility, he's no Kessel. One of JVR's greatest gifts is his size which he seems reluctant to use unless he prodded so let's hope RC keeps on him and while RC is at it get on Kule, who finally showed he can score in front of the opposition's net because that was the first time this year he actually went there.

When the Kule/Grabbo/Mac line was so good both Kule and Mac went to the front of the net, not so much last year with predictable results.

This trade goes right along with the gardiner and lupus for beauch trade for me. Traded 2 utterly useless players for 3 high high potential guys. Schenn is terrible

I watched the game last night. He was not good in that one. Screened Bryz on 1 goal, and got schooled on another 1. I like the guy, but he is just to slow.

JVR reminds me of Eric Cole.
