Absolutely, but most of my fellow Angels fans think he's good for some reason.eppler is terrible gm
he has done a fair job of building decent teams with two of the best players in baseball and almost nothing wrt pitching. i think it's an achievement considering the 87 million dollar ****ing boat anchor attached to the roster.
We haven’t had any winning seasons under him. He hasn’t done a good job with anything.he has done a fair job of building decent teams with two of the best players in baseball and almost nothing wrt pitching. i think it's an achievement considering the 87 million dollar ****ing boat anchor attached to the roster.
That doesn’t excuse his overpayment of crappy free agents and hiring Brad f***ing Ausmus as manager. His plan is horrible and he has no sense of what going on or what the right direction to take the team in is. He’s a horrible GM who should be fired immediately if we want any shot at keeping Trout.Millions tied up in useless assets. Lack of valuable minor leaguers to trade.
Pretty much any gm was set up to lose there early on. Only Angels fans believed they were better than they actually were.
When he took over he had Mike Trout, Richards, and trash. The team is unquestionably in better shape. We haven’t had any winning seasons under him. He hasn’t done a good job with anything.
The best Angels prospect, catcher Taylor Ward, wouldn’t be a top ten guy in most systems. Trades gutted an already very weak system and this is now a complete from-the-ground-up rebuild project. There’s no way to spin it: this may be the worst system in recent memory.
And he has done an absolutely horrific job of doing so.his plan is to keep the team competitive before trout leaves. you can't do a cubs or astros teardown when willie mays is in centerfield for you.
look at what he started with:
Minor League Ball: 2016 farm system rankings
Six reasons the Angels look like the most hopeless franchise in baseball
he inherited an 85 win team that most of the veterans left. he added simmons. a year later, maldonado, jupton and kinsler. ohtani.
the problem was that most of their young guys kind of busted. these were guys picked before eppler came to town. garrett richards is 30 and the proud owner of a 108 era+ in 744 innings. andrew heaney, tyler skaggs. they were supposed to be the next crop and they bombed.
It absolutely is. We should be a playoff team with Trout, which we probably would be if we had continued Dipoto's trend of attempting to fix the pitching, but wait, we traded our best pitching prospect, and added absolutely no notable starters OR relievers, until this year when we gave Matt f***ing Harvey $14 million when we could've just kept Shoemaker for 4.5 million and signed or traded for a difference maker. Not to mention he got rid of 2 of our best relievers by nontendering Parker and trading away Alvarez. He has absolutely no clue how to make the Angels a good team. He needs to go.they've been a 500 team save for his first year where he was left with mike trout and nothing. that ain't horrific.
Yeah this is really the only move he's made this offseason that I liked. An odd thread to dump on Eppler in. Lucroy won't hit for dick but is above average throwing runners out, and was huge guiding a staff that was reduced to Mike Fiers and zombies come August.
At around 3.3 it's a bargain.Yeah this is really the only move he's made this offseason that I liked.
The fact that Angels fans hate this and like the Harvey deal tell you all you need to know about the majority of them.yeah i'm not sure why so many angels fans are hating on this move
he's good at throwing runners out and good at handling an inexperienced pitching staff
Harvey is not a good pitcher, is way overpaid, and is a locker room problem. Would much rather gamble on Shoe being healthy. There's little upside to Harvey. If all things go right he MIGHT be a good 4 starter but that's about all we can hope for at this point....that they like eppler rolling the dice on bringing matt harvey onto a good defensive team at the cost of nothing but cash?
shoemaker being nontendered makes sense to me, you're paying cash for a slight upgrade in harvey who has a higher ceiling.
We have plenty of 4-5 types already. We need front of the line starters.and that's what you need.
fwiw, harvey seemed fine in cincinnati.
