Good on him, people may say "big deal" but he didn't have to do that.
20 points with very limited ice time while being the biggest physical threat in team. Not the first guy I'd scratch.
Seattle probably salivating at that opportunity
Don't know what happened that one Xmas in Edmonton when his play fell off a cliff, but I wasn't a fan of how he responded to the adversity. Looks like he has recovered his career as a 3rd line player in Calgary.
Honestly there'd be far worse selections for Seattle to make off the Flames
Whaaaaa? If he was making 700K teams would take a chance on him
That's great news for the Kraken. They can now have a bonafide clown without the need for makeup.
I'm sure he rose to the top of the Krakens list.....
He'd be a 15+15 guy during a 82 game season. Some clueless people in here saying he'd be out of the league if he didn't have a NMC
182 in forwards. Divided by 31 teams.. that is around #6 out of 12 forwards.
If Lucic was making 700k there would be a daily
(Value of) Milan Lucic to my team

I disagree wholeheartedly. A 20-30pt physical player making 700k would be an incredibly valuable depth piece.
Lucic might be terribly over-priced, but calling him a "borderline" replacement-level player is pretty ridiculous.
But he's their best player? This makes no sense.
Didn’t know that 10+ goal, 30 point scorers with excellent advanced metrics were considered 12/13 forwards.
Breaking news: Players is willing to flee sinking ship.... More at 11.
I really like Lucic and I hope he signs with the Flames after his contract is finished. He has been great throughout the second half of this season and plays with a style that Calgary would really miss if he wasn't on the team.
No it really isn't. He's honoring a gentleman's agreement with the Flames (to waive his NMC for the Expansion draft) - which was instrumental in him getting traded in the first place.
Seattle won't be picking Lucic.
like I posted--this is all about him trying to closer to his family in Vancouver. Seattle would be silly take him
I love how everyone thinks exposing Lucic would be to bait Seattle in picking him
The biggest benefit will be to protect a more important asset than Lucic lol
Don’t like the guy
But credit for an unselfish choice. And made early to help out the team plans as well
Breaking news: you didn't bother to read. He agreed to it at the time of the trade.

My mistake, I was somehow under the mistaken impression that sometime people break their promisses...
Who hurt you?
And like I posted -- I highly doubt it - even Lucic knows he's not getting selected. That it's Seattle likely makes little difference. He wanted out of Edmonton and agreed that he'd waive his NMC for the Expansion draft in order for that to happen.
Now he's simply honouring that agreement and being a good teammate.
Go basically a PR move, ok. He may still be productive as a bottom 6 kind of player & that (truly) is great...but he's getting paid top 6 money. So by doing this he earns goodwill with the team (they can protect someone else), with the fans (he's willing to help out the team), & has very little worry about actually going to Seattle (unless they need to hit the cap floor...in which case...yeah, maybe).
I'm thinking that he's probably done after this contract ends, but by doing this the team may give him a year or two (at a much lower salary) as a thank you. And even at league minimum (it won't be), that's still a couple million more in the bank.
So not a bad move on his part.
Honestly though, barring a trade, who would they rather protect? Dube maybe?
I doubt they go 4-4..
