Lovejoy had value because Lovejoy was valuable. The guy has been a solid 3rd pairing defneseman and great penalty killer for 2 years straight here, but a lot of people ignore that.

agreed.. but its still solid value and solid return for the devils.. its not to diminish Lovejoy.. he was key for Pitt in some of their playoff runs

Taylor Fedun was/is a better offense defenseman on the third pairing . Carrick just makes too many mistakes . Even did in in the AHL . He voluntarily went down during the Bye-Week and All-Star break and played 3 AHL games with the Texas Stars. Was really bad in two of the three games and in one his offensive ability won the game. His offensive upside does not make up for his defensive shortcomings in the NHL.

so he will room with severs?

Problem is, you probably didn't see John Moore play for us. Sounds like the same type of guy. Maybe Carrick has a bit more offense and a bit less D. I dunno. I guess we'll see. I just know we're happy with getting a 3rd.

Stars fan hates Carrick, thinks he's terrible

*checks PDO* 90.3 - ah, that explains it.

Carrick probably was bad this season in the limited time he saw in Dallas but he was a fine third-pairing D before that.

I honestly haven't noticed him in the NHL that much aside from games I attended at The Rock when he was with Wash and TML.

I do remember him dominating in the AHL playoffs for Toronto vs Albany.

Why do people ignore that he has been a solid 3rd pairing defensemen and a great penalty killer for two straight years? So what do they think of him?

Sounds suspiciously like Gelinas...but without the booming shot. :whaaa?:

I think Lovejoy is a fantastic defenseman in the right situation don't get me wrong.. but he is clearly a guy we are not re signing. and I would have been happy with a 3rd my point is they got a guy that has played almost 200 NHL games back in return.. so I thought it was a good return for Lovejoy.. but I think Dallas got a great player in return.. good trade for both...

Well considering that Lovejoy had already played for Dallas before arriving in NJ, it is a good deal for them as they know him as a player there.

Sounds like a right handed John Moore - fast, adds a little offense, but a defensive liability. Maybe he's destined to be our next OT hero :)

Maybe we'll start winning again, too. :sarcasm:

(though he might be another Gelinas without the big shot)

RFA after this year. At first I was thinking it was a cap dump by Dallas, but maybe he's just an add like people here are saying. Maybe they traded an offensive D for a defensive one.

From forecaster.ca:

Assets: Owns tremendous puck-moving ability and overall mobility from the back end. Also boasts plenty of offensive prowess and can be an asset on the power play at the NHL level.

Flaws: Could stand to get physically stronger to withstand the rigors of the National Hockey League schedule. Must also learn to limit his mistakes, with and without the puck, in the NHL.

Career Potential: Mobile, puck-moving defenseman with a little upside.

Frankly, I would have been happy with just a 3rd.

Agreed. Whatever he provides the Devils on Defense(what's that?) would be an added bonus (for the Devils or the opposing team?).

He was being called a disgrace of a player just the other day on this very forum. It's pretty regular during gameday threads for posts yelling to waive him or get him off the team.

Great trade, thrilled to not ever have to hear the guy speak again. Always sounded like he was trying to be the smartest guy in the room when he actually sounded like he was the furthest thing from it.
