Last Time Out:

Ryan Ellis, Mikael Granlund, Austin Watson, Viktor Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg all tallied on Thursday against the Wild; Duchene assisted on the goals from Ellis, Granlund and Forsberg. Winger Craig Smith recorded an assist on Arvidsson's goal for his 300th NHL point. Pekka Rinne earned his first win of the season by making 22 saves on the evening, and he also passed Miikka Kiprusoff for the second-most games played (624) by a Finnish-born goaltender in NHL history.

In total, 11 players recorded at least one point for the Preds on Opening Night. Duchene's three points were tops among his teammates, while Forsberg and Ellis each had a goal and an assist.

The Opposition:
Detroit will play their first game of the 2019-20 season tonight when the face the Preds, and they're expected to have star forward Dylan Larkin in the lineup after leaving practice earlier in the week due to a collision.
The status of forward Andreas Athanasiou for tonight's game is uncertain as he continues to deal with an injury suffered in the preseason.

All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are 35-48-(4)-10 all-time against the Red Wings, including a 21-22-(2)-3 record at Bridgestone Arena. This will be the 98th meeting between the two teams, marking Nashville's most games played against a non-Central Division opponent.

Nashville is seeking its first victory over Detroit on home ice since Dec. 30, 2013, a span of five games.
On Feb. 28, 2009, the Predators defeated the Red Wings, 8-0, at Bridgestone Arena. It remains the highest margin of victory in a game in franchise history.

Notables Versus Detroit:
Ryan Ellis (12/26/11), Roman Josi (11/26/11) and Filip Forsberg (4/14/13) made their NHL debuts against the Red Wings, and Ryan Johansen scored his first career NHL goal vs. Detroit on Oct. 25, 2011.

Calle Jarnkrok was acquired from Detroit along with Patrick Eaves and a second-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft (traded to San Jose; San Jose selected Julius Bergman) in exchange for David Legwand on March 5, 2014.

Nick Bonino tallied a career-high four assists on March 26, 2016, vs. Detroit. He has eight points (3g-5a) in 16 career games against the Red Wings. Josi has 12 points (2g-10a) in 22 career meetings with Detroit, including five points (5a) in his last six games against the Red Wings.

Heads up for anybody that uses Sling. They have removed their Fox networks. The game won't be available.

Does anybody use SlingTv? I have Sling Blue and had no problem finding FS-TN last year. I'm not seeing the channel available for tonight.
Fox Sports Regional (owned at the time by Disney, now by Sinclair?) and Sling have a contract dispute which I guess is still ongoing; it started in June I think. Preds won't be on Sling outside of NBCSN until it's resolved.

Same goes for Dish, and I guess FS1 and 2 were removed alongside FSNs at some point. Sling and Dish jointly put out a release that it was unlikely the FSNs would ever be added back again, but it could just be a negotiation tactic.

Sling in particular takes a major hit without a good live sports option, as Orange is limited to 1 concurrent stream because of ESPN, which is past its prime as a rightsholder anyways, and Blue has virtually nothing. The Sports package is probably crippled now as well, but they also jacked up the price just in time for college football.

We're 1-9 vs Detroit since Lavy took over.

And 0-5 at Bridgestone- question for today is can we break the Detroit Bridgestone curse?

Preds have not beaten the Red Wings at Bridgestone since Dec 30, 2013
Last 5 meetings:
2019 L 2-3
2018 L 1-3
2017 L 0-1
2016 L 2-3
2015 L 3-4

8 total goals in 5 games

This despite the fact that the Preds had the far superior team in every one of the games

Mind-boggling- such a strange, inexplicable thing...

Okay boys, the hoopla of our game one is over, now the work begins. Let's get a win tonight and let the head to head stats start moving in the other direction. I didn't realize it was so one sided where the Red Wings were concerned.

Looking forward to another game without the drop-back pass on the PP. I know we didn't score but we certainly got the puck into the attacking zone much more quickly on Thursday. Certainly continues my optimism for upcoming games.

Yeah, I hate to make excuses for it, but the powerplay had a lot of really good chance against the Wild and Dubnyk was just really good. I thought he played as well or better than Rinne, but the Preds team defense in front of Rinne was a lot better.

Pretend they're not the Red Wings. Just pretend they're some other team in red like the Hurrica...oh wait, dammit. Pretend they're the Capitals. Yeah, that'll do.

If you are looking for a streaming service you might give PSVue a try. I have a ton of ESPN channels, Big 10 and SEC Networks, a ton of Fox channels including regional, and they just added the NHL network.

I think you guys break the hex vs the Wings tonight. Was perusing your board to see if Saros was starting as was my thought since he was first off the ice, but my luck with drafting (draftkings) likely goalies is about 50/50. Anyway, I'm used to weird losing streaks like 10 straight openers for my flames or the 23 in a row(or so I kind of lost count with the ot games being included in some lists and not in others) @ Honda vs the Ducks that was only recently ended.

All the best on a successful year folks.
