It seems that some beautiful person taped the beginning of a October 1972 KTLA broadcast of a game featuring the Los Angeles Kings versus the Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens and kept it in their personal home video collection all of these years. There are other sports highlights on this video and the brief hockey feature (with Ralph Backstrom scoring against Jacques Plante) starts at about 41:18.

Other things to note here, this was at about the start of kindly H Ballard's first full season as principal owner of the Leafs (as Stafford Smythe had died early on in the previous one), you can see Paul Henderson in action and this was after his famous goal against the Russians, the WHA's first season and that the Philadelphia Blazers had successfully poached the Leafs' Bernie Parent.

I recall a number of years back visiting a website from someone who discussed all sorts of things entertainment in the Los Angeles area during the 1960s and 70s and he mentioned that when video cassette recorders first became available for home use beginning in the very early '70s, it was a rather clubbish sort of thing to tape various sorts of things off TV and share and trade them with others. You wonder if hockey telecasts from that time like this one survive in this manner.
