I was just thinking about a play a few years back in which Sean Avery, playing for LA, cross checked Shane Doan in the back of the head, pushed him to the ice, took off his gloves and continued to pound Doan. He got a double roughing minor and a lone fighting major -- nine minute powerplay for PHX.

Has there been a longer powerplay?

Match penalties for attempt to injure resulted in the offending player being ejected from the game and the team serving a five minute major penalty. The ten minutes that you speak of was what was recorded in the offending players stats.
