Is there no strategy in the defensive zone?

Every time it's in our end it's just a circus back there.

4-2 win over Sarnia

For the third game of a 3 game weekend it was a strong team effort but not without chasing that hot potato a few times. Raaymakers played extremely well in this game he stole that one from Sarnia and the streak continue.

That was not a great game for either team, the first period got away from the knights and I counted 5 turnovers on one shift for Timms. In the second we controlled the breakout better (functional but far from well oiled) but had some penalty trouble. We were fortunate that Sarnia’d pp sucked and did not make us pay. We had a good third and showed some jump.

Raaymakers had a good game minus the first goal in the first shot from the top of the circle

Heavy workload in 4-2 win over Sting suits Knights goalie Raaymakers

Mark Malone, Postmedia News
Updated: October 21, 2018

SARNIA
The Sarnia Sting were all over the London Knights in the first period Sunday.
Knights goalie Joseph Raaymakers had the Sting right where he wanted them.
Raaymakers withstood a 21-shot barrage in the opening period and backstopped the Knights to a 4-2 comeback Ontario Hockey League win before 3,672 fans at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
“It’s just easier as a goalie if there’s more shots, just to get into the game, so I think that helped,” Raaymakers said.
He had to make a handful of point-blank stops, but that didn’t bother him. Heck, he enjoyed it.
“I’d take 21 shots any day,” said Raaymakers, who finished with 36 saves.
London native Aidan Hughes lasted only one period in the Sting’s net.
He was pulled after allowing two goals – the first on a delayed penalty and the second on a power play – on six shots.
The Sting outshot the Knights 21-6 in the period but had to settle for a 2-2 tie at the intermission.
“It just shows how much parity there is in this league,” Sting defenceman Mitch Eliot said.
“You can’t take a shift off. That’s kind of been the story of our season so far. When we get up, we let teams back in pretty easily. And then when it’s a tight game, we’ve been up on the wrong side of it more times than not.
“It’s a tough league and there’s a lot of good offensive players. You can’t really take anything for granted out there.”
The Sting’s loss was their third in a row and seventh in eight games. They’ve led in all but one of those losses.
“There’s been bright spots, no doubt,” Eliot said. “In each game you can find a positive, but it’s a results-oriented business and we’ve got to find a way to get wins.
“We haven’t been able to do that recently, so we’ve got to find a way to get back in the win column.”
Eliot scored on the first shot of the game at the 31-second mark.
That didn’t faze Raaymakers. Neither did Hugo Leufvenius’s power-play goal that put the Sting ahead 2-1 late in the period.
“You’ve almost been in every single situation being in the league for five years now,” said the 20-year-old netminder. “It’s just a matter of staying focused and focusing on one shot at a time.”
Dalton Duhart and Cole Tymkin had the Knights goals in the first period.
Rookie goalie Ethan Langevin played the final two periods for the Sting. He took the loss after giving up two goals on 16 shots.
Josh Nelson banged in a rebound of his own shot for the winner at 9:40 of the second period and Billy Moskal added an insurance goal with 1:41 to go in the third.
“We did a lot of good things at the start of the game the way we wanted to,” Eliot said. “We got a goal on our first shift, but we have to play committed in all three zones. I think we need to tighten up our details, especially in our own end and take care of the puck back there.
“I think we’re generating chances, but we’ve got to stick with it when we get down like that. We can’t try and change our game. We’ve got to play the same way.”
The Sting were held to 10 shots in the second period and seven in the third.
“There were a lot of shots in the first, but I thought our D really cleaned up in the second and third,” Raaymakers said. ” Our D played really well and our PK (penalty-killing) was good as well.”
The Sting were 1-for-6 on the power play, the Knights 2-for-3.
After scoring only one power-play goal in their first nine games, the Knights have three in the last two games.
“Our power play’s playing well,” Raaymakers said. “They’ve been working hard in practice and it’s paid off.”
Heavy workload in 4-2 win over Sting suits Knights goalie Joseph Raaymakers just fine

Alex Formenton
Formenton won't return until next week at the earliest, Brent Wallace of TSN reports.
Considering that the Senators only have one game left this week, this doesn't mean that Formenton is going to miss a ton of time. However, since the 19-year-old is dealing with a concussion, it's hard to put a strict return date on him. Based on this news, his next chance to return will be Tuesday (Oct. 23) against the Bruins.

London Knights end weekend with gritty win over Sarnia
newtalknavlogo_460x140_cknw-positive_.png

By Mike Stubbs Reporter 980 CFPL
The London Knights doubled up the Sarnia Sting 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia.
Playing their third game in two and a half days, London willed themselves to stay with the Sting offensively early on and got 36 saves from overage goalie Joseph Raaymakers at the other end of the ice to earn their second straight victory and an important two points against a Western Conference opponent.
“It’s a character win for us,” said London assistant coach Dylan Hunter. “The first period wasn’t what we wanted, and the guys regrouped and came back and had a good second and third (period).”
Sarnia peppered the Knights net with 21 shots in the opening 20 minutes, but thanks to the work of Raaymakers in the crease, the score stayed tied at 2-2.
Hunter said Raaymakers was great.
“It could have been three or four to nothing after the first, and you would have no chance at all. That’s all you can ask from your goalie is to give you the opportunity to win, and he did,” Hunter said.
Boqvist and Foudy make Top 100 under 21
The Hockey News put together a list of the top 100 players in the game under the age of 21. Liam Foudy of the Knights comes in at number 95 with a nod to his speed and his play-making ability. Adam Boqvist is all the way up at 58 with his ability to rush the puck. The list is littered with London connections. Mitch Marner is the highest ex-Knight at number 13, while Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and Patrick Laine are one, two and three. Marner is joined by a few Memorial Cup-winning teammates in Robert Thomas (24), Matthew Tkachuk (32), Evan Bouchard (59) and Victor Mete (64). The Suzuki brothers from London also made it. Little brother Ryan (75) gets the bragging rights over big brother Nick (79). Knights draft picks Brady Tkachuk (35) and Jack Roslovic (62) are also on there, although neither one has ever worn green and gold.
Boqvist rising
Knights defenceman Boqvist admits he is feeling more comfortable on a 200 x 85-foot sheet of ice, and his stats are backing that up. Boqvist is a six-foot, 181-pound bundle of creativity who has had to adjust his game from international-sized ice to North American-sized ice. It’s kind of like selling your three-bedroom home and moving into a two-bedroom condo. Everything is basically the same, but it still takes some getting used to. Boqvist now has ten assists in his last seven games. The Chicago Blackhawks selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

OHL Prospects‏ @BrockOtten 22h22 hours ago

The Top scoring rookie thus far in the AHL coming out of the OHL? S
am Miletic with 6 points in 6 games. Was such an underrated OHL player and prospect. Jack of all trades whose work in the dirty areas makes him a potential NHL middle six'er.
