WPG has too many bottom pairing big-frame defenseman that play a similar game in Dillon, Samberg (24), Stanley (24) and even Chisholm (23) pushing towards the NHL roster (playing a really good AHL season). It is probably part of the reason why Chevy waived Johnathan Kovacevic (25) earlier in the season, since he was the oldest one out of the "haven't established themselves at NHL level yet"-group mentioned and Chevy probably felt like losing him wouldn't really hurt the Jets "big frame bottom pairing defenseman depth" at all.

Stanley has lost is roster spot to Samberg, who just plays an overall better game than Stanley and probably fears the same thing happening with Chisholm next season. He is the one on the outside looking in right now. Allthough, Jets fan pretty much all gree that Logan Stanley has been given the most "comfy way" onto the roster compared to pretty much any draft pick we had, being constantly heavily sheltered in usage and getting game time withouth really having earned it. It was just given to him - most likely in order to give him better chances at making it as a NHL regular, being a former 1st round pick the Jets even moved up for in the draft. Obviously, Chevy would probably have loved to see him succeed and therefore make that move at the draft look genius.

Considering all those dynamics, Jets fans aren't at all sad about him asking for a trade now. We don't need him and to us, he didn't really do anything to deserve more playing time, let alone a guaranteed spot on the roster - besides being a first round pick at 6'7. "You can't teach 6'7" definitely became a HFJets meme because of that.

That said, it is surely not out of possibility that Stanley makes a jump in his development somewhere else. Maybe on a roster that could really use a 6'7 "Stanimal"?

Overall I don't think anyone feels any kind of bad blood about him now asking for a trade. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Stanley and Chevy even spoke about that option openly for some time and they only "leak" him "requesting a trade" more for the sake of gathering a bit more interest around the league.

Is he waiver exempt? He has played 108 NHL games so far (i.e. lower than the 150 game minimum for waiver as he signed his ELC at 18), but he might have surpassed the age threshhold for sustaining his waiver free eligibility. Anybody know?

There is already a thread that was created yesterday for this.
