Some 25 year old flaunting money at a casino or a 30 year old buying a car is "dumb" to you and other twitterversers

iMeanwhile, IN REAL LIFE and THINGS THAT MATTER, Ilitch is asking taxpayers for millions for his private project. Or Katz demanding for millions for his project.

I guess because the "media" covers it... that validates its importance to you?
As someone who has worked in media for 20 years, you have no idea how silly that idea is.

Oh I am sorry did those not happen in the real life, seemed to me I wasn't watching a movie they actually did those things.

Arenas can make positive impacts in areas. They have in place like Indianapolis, Cleveland and a couple other cities. That happened in real life too. While there is risk attached this ability to see the future you have on this issue is equally laughable. You can hate them getting public money that is fine, but you don't know that it will fail outright. Just as I cannot claim this will fix Detroit. I am glad when things happen according to how you see the world and what you think should happen then that is real life.

I didn't say it was important, I said it was dumb. I didn't turn around and say I hope they die at the bottom of the hill, or man it would be great if Evander Kane never played hockey again. I just think it is more players not understanding that twitter is not their friend.

Congrats on being in the media, you should understand how this works. Public perception is important and this is just another moment that makes me question what are these guys doing? I just wish they had less of them in the NHLPA. Sadly when neither side wants to talk this stuff will become news. The players should think about that before they press the send button or post or however you put something on twitter.

I don't care about the picture. As a Jet fan my problem is he didn't see this coming. Which to me makes him dumb. Kane has shown that he is dumb over and over again and the Jets just made a 6 year investment in a dumb guy. There has been many a million dollar talent that has been ruined by a ten cent brain.

Might be dumb, but he's all of 21 yrs young and just put up a 30 goal season after scoring 19 the year before. Whenever they start playing hockey again, I'd be glad to see the Wings take that sort of dumb off your hands.

Not even even close to Patrick Kane.

What was so dumb about his picture?

Are we supposed to be believe that Hockey fans don't understand how much money Kane makes?
Are we supposed to believe that hockey fans don't understand that the owners who pay Kane have far more money than Kane does?

So the only people who could get angry this photo would be very, very low-information types who have emotional reactions to everything.

Never said anything about Patrick.

Like I said Bob, I don't care about the picture at worst in my mind it's bad taste. I rolled my eyes. But at the same time immediately I though there was going to be a lot of people who are going to make a big deal about this. He should have thought the same thing before posting that. He forgot that Twitter isn't just for his friends to view, the world sees it. If this picture was stolen from an email he sent out to 100 of his friends and family this wouldn't be a big deal.

Whether he (or you) likes it or not he is a public figure and he has to be more careful. This isn't about him being a hockey player. If Donald Trump, Mit Romney,Obama or Paris Hilton did this the reaction wouldn't be much different.

Are you offended by the picture?

It's so funny that everyone talks about how it's bad taste because OTHER people might be offended.

It's a convenient pass-the-buck smear.

I'm actually pleased to see some honesty. The dude is rich. He's just confirming what we all knew.

But remember when Modano talked about how he'd be hard strapped to pay for his dog's food? Boy howdy. Now that was dumb. And he's been raked over the coals for it for years.

I prefer the accurate displays of wealth rather than the dishonest attempt at sympathy pulled by poor Mikey.

What Modano didn't tell everyone was that he feeds his dogs gold bullion three times a day.

I actually feed my pups Solid Gold brand. Although the label is misleading, there's barely any gold in there!

So far, I've seen a lot of people complain that it's stupid because, while they're aren't offended, others will be.

But I think that's just another way to complain about players.

So next series of cancellation will more than likely be the cancellation of the remainder of the regular season. Agree or disagree?

Has to be with where they have now pushed games to. The NHL and the owners need to get their rearends back to the table. If they want to talk show up if they have nothing new to say, report as much. This sitting around playing phone tag is frustrating, it is their job to talk to the other side, nobody said they had to like what is happening in the room. But they should be in the room.

The NHL has already won good concessions. If they're willing to die on the hill, Fehr is no stranger to sitting out the who year.

Could be a long one.

They've wiped games back to the 14th. Fehr has his deadline, now let's see if he gets serious about negotiating.

I didn't believe that it was possible to have staggering revenue growth AND need a lockout that could cost at least half the season, or possibly an entire season.

2004 seemed to have greater urgency, like something just had to be done.

I didn't feel like that this time, not even close.

I'm pretty bitter about it, that something that cost an entire season could be so ****ed up that a mere seven years later, we're here again. It shouldn't even be possible if there was a whit of competency amongst the architects of the CBA.

As far as I'm concerned... The owners and players can all go crawl in a corner and disappear into obscurity. This is ridiculous. I just wanna see the Red Wings and listen to Ken Kal call games again... Good night... Nobody cares about me, the fan. For pete's sake. Just adopt the MLB model and adjust the variables to fit the NHL. It's fair for all sides and it works. It's fair for the rich teams because they can pay for talent and field competitive teams without being restricted. It's fair for poor teams because they aren't forced to pay 3rd and 4th line scrubs $4million a year contracts to reach a stupid cap floor and can operate on their own budgets and they can keep younger players for longer on the cheap. It's fair for the players because ultimately they get payed MORE. It's fair for competition, because as we clearly see the MLB, and in particular the AL, has developed an unprecedented parity without the help of a salary cap.

I wonder what would happen if in fact the NHL does void all the players contracts what would happen... FA Frenzy's heaven? Would all the ELC be voided as well?

Parity in MLB, huh?

Only one team in the last 20 years has won the World Series without a top half the league payroll. The 2003 Florida Marlins then they sold all their players to the highest bidder. You can prefer that system but don't pretend it is fair. Detroit will probably be fine, we will see what the next era of Ilitch ownership brings though shortly so be careful what you wish for.

In theory that is what would happen. I would be surprised if the Owners truly want to go this far. However I doubt it works out very well for any of the players aside from the superstars and a few of the high prospect type draft age kids. It turns into the European system and guess what look up what those guys actual salaries are, they aren't what you think. The lesser guys make a whole lot less too. You sign your rights away to a team and then they can sell you whenever they want. When you hear so and so was sold for 40 million dollars over there he still signs a contract for 5 million and soccer is a heck of a lot more popular. There salaries are just now starting to explode, but look at a brand like Messi compared to hockey players and realize the only salaries he beats are in the NHL. The top players in the NFL, NBA and MLB all take in more in their actual base salary. He makes up the difference by being more marketable since roughly 6 billion people follow soccer and know who he is.

My guess is the players would wind up with less as a group if this played out. Sure Crosby and Malkin might make north of 10 million a year in Toronto, but the rest of the guys won't make as much. The AHL would become a reserve league, this would have huge impact on the way we know sports in North America and my guess is once people saw it aside from the four or five power teams it would make them sick to their stomach.

By the way in my opinion this would also allow the KHL a much better window into cracking the best league discussion. You would wind up with 5 to 8 big paying NHL clubs and something similar in the KHL. They could have a champions style league, but like I said the big motive of playing with the best might disappear and these guys will become more hired guns than they even are right now. This kind of system worries me a lot to be honest. It is a free market and that is fine, but just be prepared for a lot of the other issues that will arise.

Since when is winning the championship the ultimate measure of parity? Winning the World Series is the crapshootiest crapshoot of all times. Yes, blatantly ignore the fact that as is over half the teams in the MLB is capable of an over .500 record. Oh yeah... The cheapskate Rays won 90 games, the cheapskate Orioles made it to the playoffs and nearly kicked the Yankees out of the first round. Oakland, probably the cheapest of any team in the AL, made it into the postseason and won their division. Don't be shocked if the Indians make a run this year. That's what competition is. Many teams are also spending more money. So the system does encourage spending money.

Man, someone needs to eat crow cause they bet Oakland and Baltimore would flame out against me.
