If Goodenow had bothered to negotiate the 42mill offer, instead of flatly rejecting it, there is every reason to think that these things might have been included in that agreement also, and possibly more.

McKenzies says the $39m INCLUDES costs.

McKenzie just said (at 11:30) on Sportscentre that Crosby has been told to be available by satellite on Thursday for the draft lottery/nhl press conference.. i'm not sure if he meant this Thursday or next...
Milbury's got his jersey all set for him ...

He said something similar to that at 10:30. He meant next Thursday.

According to the reports, this deal contains a $39M cap w/o the $2.2M 'other costs' being included..

The deal in February was a $42.5M cap, but that included the $2.2 in 'other costs', so the actual cap was $40.3M..

So in the end, the cap difference is only $1.3M per team, but the PA gained in plenty of other areas - notably revenue sharing, exclusion of a lux tax, UFA age, QO's, Arbitration, and so forth..

Yeah, no doubt Bob Goodenow and the PA are the landslide winners in this CBA negotiation.

The NHLPA's executive committee approved the deal, which is expected to be made official in a news release later today by the NHL

http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/ny-spnhl071405,0,5877493.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines

Does that include Daniel Alfredsson who claimed in the Ottawa Sun this morning he was in the dark

Arturs Irbe,Trent Klatt and Vincent Damphousse?Did the PA exec committee unanimously approve the deal? What is the procedure for the exec committe approving the deal?Is it just a simple majority?

Any idea how much 'costs' add up to relative to the players salaries?
Isn't it supposed to be about $2 mill?

It would make sense.

The tsn article shows that payroll is $39 mill and the 20% max rule is in play bringing the max player salary to $7.4 million. $7.4 million divided by 0.2 = $37 million.

$39-$37 = $2

Darth Vader says - "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

Does that mean we potentially are going to have to go through this BS again in four years?

It probably wont be nearly as bad next time around. Most of the big structural changes will be hammered out, so there will be less to argue about. I can see a problem if the league's finances take a serious nose dive and teams are going out of business trying to reach the floor. If revenue soars, I doubt the players would have a really hard time convincing the league to ease up on the cap.

Not to worry... By that time Goodenow will have found employment elsewhere...

They picked a good day to get this thing done with nothing else really going on in the world of sports today.

That 4 Year thing almost seems like the NHLPA is saying "look if it doesn't work, we want someone other than Bob Goodenow working on a new deal for us...."

Congrats on firing the first shot in the spinfest we all know is coming from the PA supporters.

Should make for highly amusing reading.

Well, hopefully the PA still has to honor the other two years on the deal while they renegotiate. That would seem like the logical choice, but with Goodenow and Saskin at the helm I suppose anything's possible. :shakehead

If that’s the case, the players (and league) would have a heck of a lot of other things to worry about ---- like surviving.
