Never looked at skates but I have heard they can be a good deal. I would probably go and get yourself fitted somewhere first to know which style fits you best though.

Sticks depends on the player. I'm a RH shot so my options were limited but I picked up a warrior QRL Letestu stick for $120ish. However a similar stick from Eberle was double the price. I've never even seen a McDavid stick on the rack, I don't think they ever make it that far.
