That's the plan.Is he better than hutton? Will he eventually take this job over?
Wanted to bump this thread to acknowledge IceBearDude. Full marks for Ullmark yesterday who was simply stellar in net with several highlight reel saves including a few that were Hasek like. Between him and Hutton (AKA Sutton), the Sabres have gotten very good goaltending all season long.
This is such a win/win. Hutton at a steal of a contract for three years and having him mentor Ullmark who looks like the real deal. Unless Hutton falls off a cliff we're good for a while and then maybe JJ is ready for the backup role and UPL is the star in Rochester...
Should we expect UPL in Rochester next year?
I lean towards this as well...we're set at goalie for the next two seasons, and it would be a disaster to rush UPL and blow his confidence. We have a real shot at getting our own Lundqvist or Rinne out of the kid, and spoiling that would be horrible.I say no. Too soon. Maybe Cincinnati. Or let him play professionally in Liiga.
When there was the UPL crisis, I reminded folks that goalies take a while to develop. No need to rush.
According to Vogl via Rotowire, he's sick but will still suit up as the backup.Any word on why he missed practice today? Just a maintenance day?
Uh oh. this is how Berglund started.According to Vogl via Rotowire, he's sick but will still suit up as the backup.

That isn't close. Ullmark wins. Reinhart's chance was going to stop at the line anyway.
