Ya, dunno why I said ten. My mind must have been elsewhere. Still, a lofty task.

Continuing with the Total Hockey predictions, here was their list for 2006 (8 years from the time of publishing and just a year from now).

Goalies:
M. Brodeur
M. Denis
R. Luongo

Defense:
C. Pronger
S. Niedermayer
K. McLaren
E. Jovanovski
E. Brewer
R. Jackman
D. Morris

Forwards:
P. Kariya
E. Lindros
J. Friesen
M. Peca
J. Iginla
R. Smyth
E. Daze
J. Thornton
B. Shanahan
R. Niedermayer
V. Lecavalier
R. Fata
C. Gratton

To be perfectly honest, that is a great list. For them to predict the possible 2006 roster from 1998 was an astonishingly-hard task. For them to even hit 30% would've been remarkable and I think they have themselves at aout 50+%.

Brodeur
Luongo
Jovanovski
Blake
Neidermayer
Kariya
Iginla
Thornton
Lecavalier

are virtual locks for the team

Brewer
Smyth
Peca

each have about 75% of making the team

Lindros
Frieson
Morris

have an outside chance of making it also

I've got to think Jeff Carter will be on Canada's team. Size, speed, skill, hitting -- he's got it all.

Gagné - Lecavalier - St-Louis
Nash - Thornton - Iginla
Crosby - Bergeron - Heatley
Smyth - Madden - Doan
Spezza

Pronger - Niedermayer
Jovanovski - Bouwmeester
Redden - Brewer
Phaneuf

Brodeur
Luongo
Théodore

Team Canada doesn't always go with skill first, they often pick experience over potential, hence, Smyth, Madden, Gagné, Doan, Théodore over bright young prospects like Fleury, Carter, Brûlé...
It's also a toss up IMO between Redden and Regehr.

Great team, although I see alot of Spezza, Redden and Theadore on this thread. Spezza is another Jason Allison - all hands, no legs. I think Jeff Carter will eclipse him shortly.
Redden has disappeared in every Leafs playoff series - even Phillips is better, but I'd take Phaneuf.
Theodore has made a legend out of the Bruin playoff series - overrated.

This might have been true 2 years ago but he's made tremendous progress on his skating, after seeing a few AHL games I'd almost call him fast, almost.

Redden has disappeared in every Leafs playoff series - even Phillips is better, but I'd take Phaneuf.

Redden could be switched with Regehr but the whole Sens team disappears in the Leafs series I really don't think it's a true measure of his capabilities.

Theodore has made a legend out of the Bruin playoff series - overrated.

He's had a few rough games but when it counted most, games 5 & 6 three years ago and game 7 last year he was outstanding and stole those games for the Habs.
You have to remember it was his first time in the playoffs so he was quite green, I assure you he isn't overrated.

I agree, but he does play great at the World Champs.

True, and at the time of the picks he was touted pretty highly IIRC. He's still a solid NHLer that might make some other national teams but Canada's depth is (and likely will be for a while) astounding.

Spezza's the best player in the AHL right now. He was great for the icetime he got in his 1st NHL year. By 2010 he'll be an allstar in the league, without a doubt.

The average is exactly 30 years. National Olympic teams usually go around 27. Don't you think that it is little bit too old? I'm not impressed with your D at all. Phaneuf should be ahead of some of them. There are 5 more years for him to improve and he is allready such a great D-man! By the 2010 I see him as one of the top D in the league.

I'm actually very impressed to see how all of you Canadians predict a lot of veteran players! I expected much more youth!

Probably the best roster I've seen yet in this thread. I think Phaneuf and Pronger would be there over Souray & McCabe(well McCabe & Souray could make it over Phaneuf though, no doubt about that), and I don't think Bertuzzi nor Ribiero will be there.

I gotta say though, I can't see too many more changes being made and these are the only ones that stand out. Strong roster. ;)

Just for conversations sake, this is the roster I made up with my current EHM game of a potential 2008 team for Canada and a secondary one, as well. These are based off of what they did in the 07-08 season and their overall performance

Crosby-Brule-Heatley
Kariya-Allison-Bertuzzi
Tanguay-Thornton-Iginla
Smyth-Lecavelier-Nash

some things: Kariya and Allison revitalized their careers as linemates with Washington so they're together, even though Thornton and Lecavelier had stronger seasons performance wise. Same with Brule and Heatley, they're with my St. Louis Blues and have great chemistry as well. The only weakness I see is Tanguay on a potential checking line

Brewer-Phaneuf
Cobourn-Stuart
Foote-Lynch

notes: There's about 20 defenceman that could be picked, Canada's depth is amazing so this is a crapshoot. Cobourn's in because he's my team's (St. Louis's) best defenceman, Lynch is the best defensive defenceman in the league with a 98 defence rating and Phaneuf is the best overall defenceman in the league.

Luongo and Brodeur as the goalies

now for the secondary team:
Latendresse- Kessel-St. Louis
Whitney-Arnott-Lupul
Daze-Staal-Parrish
Eager-Beech-Horton

notes: Latendresse's the best pure powerforward in the league besides Bertuzzi and he's also a Blue. Kessel's Canadian in this game because I made a mistake when editing players. Whitney and Daze completely revitalized their careers while Lupul had 48 goals with a 99 shooting stat. Eager, Beech, and Horton are an excellent checking line, all three are top notch all round young players. Parrish had the best overall performance rating of forwards on this team.

Bouwmeester-Rick Jackman
Jovanovski-Morris
Pronger-Regehr

Jackman's a norris candidate, but a one year wonder so that keeps him off the first team. All these guys would be on the first team, you'd think, but the first teamers had better performance ratings than these guys. Still good.

Giguere and Thibault are the goalies. Thibault's a surprise over Theodore or Turco, but he earn't it

players that could be on the teams but arn't: Doan, Pyatt, Gagne, Morrow, P.M. Bouchard, Briere, Peca, Ladd, Lindros, Richards, Savard, Madden, Bell, King, Sullivan, Williams, Murray, Scott Niedermayer, Barker, Redden. These guys could make any other team but Canada because it's so deep

woah, crap, I just realized Parrish is American. replace him with uh, Justin Williams or Shane Doan
