Would love to see next year:

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Andrighetto
X1 - Plekanec - Gallagher
Eller - McCarron - Carr
Byron - Danault - Mitchell

X2 - Subban
Beaulieu - Petry
Markov - Pateryn

X1 - Skinner, Yakupov, Drouin, Hartnell, Marleau, Hudon, Scherbak
X2 - ?? Campbell, Yandle, Hamhuis, Fowler/Despres, Brodin/Scandella

Trade Emelin, Desharnais
On the block - Markov, DLR, Plekanec, Eller

Andrighetto is not a first line player, certainly not now.

Personally, when making line combos, I like to:
  • Spread out the smaller guys
  • Use responsible centers
  • Allow my wingers to create offensively

My priority would be to snag Stamkos. It may not happen of course, but if it does, I see several possibilities. A versatile coach could change up our look and adjust for different teams or even in-game.

OPTION 1: Two-way centers
Pacioretty-Plekanec-Stamkos
Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
Carr-McCarron-Andrighetto
DeLaRose-Danault-Mitchell

OPTION 2: Load first line
Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Stamkos
Andrighetto-Plekanec-McCarron
Carr-Eller-Gallagher
DeLaRose-Danault-Mitchell

OPTION 3 - 3 balanced lines:
Carr-Stamkos-McCarron
Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
Pacioretty-Plekanec-Andrighetto
DeLaRose-Danault-Mitchell

With Stamkos, Galchenyuk and Pacioretty on three different lines, who does the opposition key on??

BTW, the first two options also work if we get a strong RW in UFA or via trade, instead of Stamkos

Send down McCarron/DLR, callup Hudon, Friberg (he's under contract next season and waiver eligible...makes no sense not to try him)

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Hudon - Plekanec - Lessio
Friberg/Matteau - Eller - Andrighetto
Byron - Danault - Mitchell
Brown

Next season, I'd say priority #1 is dumping DD/Eller 7.0M and signing a UFA. Stamkos unlikely to want to sign with this dump status but Okposo might be possible if Habs give him 7.0M x 6 years. Overpayment? Yes, but it's better than having a bunch of overpaid bottom 6ers playing top 6. Upgrading Markov might be too much to ask for one offseason.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Okposo
Hudon - Plekanec - Gallagher
Carr - Danault - Andrighetto
Lessio/Matteau - Mitchell - Byron/Flynn

Beaulieu - Subban
Markov/Emelin - Petry
Markov/Emelin - Pateryn
Ellis/Nygren (probably done with organization but could be the saviour of the PP)

I'm fine with dumping DD if we can. But not Eller.

You OTOH want to dump Eller for cap reasons, then overpay Okposo by $3M?!

Okposo has Gallaghersque goal numbers and maybe a few more assists but playing with Tavares helps a lot.

Also, the seven times Okposo has played 40 or more games, he has been a minus player every single time, even as the Islanders got better.

This appears to be a case of the Grass is Always Greener Syndrome, also known as the July 1st screw-yourself game.

Top 6 next year should be pacioretty - galchenyuk - (top6 winger), and hudon - plekanec - gallagher.

Is X okposo, eriksson?

They should call up friberg, bournival and forsure hudon at some point. Be nice to give dietz a game or two also

Holloway deserves some games to showcase himself at the NHL level.

I agree. Playing 7 mins on a 4th line in one nhl game is complete bs for a guy who is just about a PPG in the ahl. Doesnt matter if he is 19 or 28 years old he should've been given a chance with pleks and pac when gallagher went down

Stamkos is NOT coming to MTL, he will be in Toronto and they already have a sealed deal. Its the only reason why TO cleared the deck.

Signing Stamkos to play him on the wing, hilarious.

I disagree. They want to make and keep the cap space for Rielly, Kadri, a UFA goalie, and new players coming up they want to sign long term. They also did not want to be hampered by long high contracts such as Kessel's amd Phaneufs, or a new one from Stamkos.

I also still say Stamkos stays in TB.

If Stamkos ends up in Toronto on July 1st is there any way Yzerman isn't fired immediately?

Also, why can I not vote in polls? Am I too noob?

If the habs get Stamkos they must clear the salaries of Eller, Desharnais and Plekanec without taking any salary back.

Also if we do get him you can bet he would play Center with Pacioretty.

Would love to see Stamkos with a Habs jersey.....on the fourth line, cause you know that's were Therrien will drop him if he signs here and Michou is still the coach of this team.

There is no point in getting players like that as long as Therrien is coaching this team, he's made it clear grinding is all he knows what to do and if you dont fit that profile, dont sign here.

Eh, maybe he'll choose Buffalo. It's close enough to Toronto geographically but it won't result in rabid media hype. Plus, it's the perfect way to troll EVERYONE else in the division. Jon Cooper gets to see him at C 6 times or whatever every year. Toronto fans would be bitter because he "snubbed" them. We suffer because the Sabres always own us and he just adds to their ability to that. Plus, with Eichel in the wings, defenses have to spread their resources.

Lineup Habs 2016-2017

Predict or propose your favorite but realistic lineup for next year!

Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Andrighetto-Plekanec-Desharnais
Carr-Eller-Byron
Gilbert-Danault-De la Rose

Emelin-Subban
Beaulieu-Petry
Markov-Pateryn

Price
Condon

I hope Desharnais is bought out, but I don't think Bergevin has the balls. I wish Plekanec would not have been signed (terrible mistake again by MB for many reasons), as it prevents a better player (Eller) be the second line C. That lineup is fugly, but it's the best I can do with the players we have. McCarron and Scherbak need ice time in the minor to get stronger, faster and better. Hudon could easily replace Desharnais and do a better job. I don't foresee us signing up a meaningful free agent this offseason.

You already put us out of the playoffs by not only having DD on the roster but in the top 6.
