110 point team the year before this one. See ya.

And this year? And the one before that? Currently- was he recently fired for incompetence? Are there any postseason successes to hope for? Blind yourself with optimism if you like, this is an atrocious hire.

Love the hire.

Has shown an ability to adapt coaching systems to personnel? Check.

Has shown a recent ability to coach a young roster? Particularly a highly skilled roster that played a high-tempo style? Check.

Not Berube? Check.

Not Gallant? Check.

James Patrick and Curt Fraser all four seasons in Dallas.

Chris Taylor all four seasons in Jersey. Two seasons of Mark Recchi and two seasons of Ryan McGill. Two seasons of Sergei Brylin. One season each for Rick Kowalsky and Alain Nasreddine.
I understand the calls for bringing in guys with no connection to the org, but the sight of Mark Recchi behind our bench would be unbearable for me. We'd need to have the #1 PP in the league every year lol.

Best medical staff on the bench with that level of doctor making his rounds.

Would the mood here tonight be more jovial if Berube was coming in ?
The mood here would be ecstatic if Lindy had coached 15 years somewhere other than Buffalo. People are losing their shit over the silliest thing. He’s the best fit in every way.

The same people asking for certain qualities in a coach are now mad they got one that has them all…either because he worked here before so they think it’s a stunt…or because they didn’t take longer to hire him.

There’s only one team that’d hire Ruff as their head coach at this point. They’d do it for one reason only- he’s a name, and he’s cheap. Nothing he has actually done inspires confidence.

You know it’s true. You know it’s not going anywhere. Sorry I’m off the ride, but I was tired of this dude in the 2000s. And now it’s the future. Sure. Cannot wait to reach the dysfunction levels of the devils, they’ve won so much and really lost a hell of a coach.

I thought you left

We’re coming off a coach who couldn’t learn how to pull a goalie let alone beat a clogging D and hired a coach who has adapted through over a quarter century of the league changing…winning with everything from a defensive shutdown team in front of the best goalie ever to a wide open young team just last season. And we are…mad…about it.

If you believe all Terry cares about is selling tickets, and that he made this hire, and that's it's pure nostalgia, and Lindy isn't actually a good coach, well, then I probably can't convince you that Lindy is a logical choice for on ice reasons, because you've convinced yourself of something and nothing will change your mind. Stay mad. IDFC.

I think a lot of things can be true at one time.

This can be Terry influenced, with a big marketing upside, and still improve the hockey team. We can be annoyed that Terry keeps on Terrying and like having Lindy back in Buffalo.

Some of you care way to much about the Sabres still even after 13 years of them letting you down especially the last 8 topped with the complete failure of this season with poor management all around.

F*ck the Buffalo Sabres. Move on and stop doubling down on hyperbole. There was no joy for next season regardless who they hired so why get mad about it? Adams refuses to do his job so why should you care?

The loser will probably try and run it back with kids rather than selling them all for actual talent now and Ruff will be left hanging.

You can sort by TOI. He was 2nd last among full time forwards, ahead of only Rob Ray.
So your issue is that a 37 year old had his minutes limited?

I did happen to notice that the 3 games we won against Pittsburgh were the 3 games he played the least…not sure your argument is as good as you think…

Watching old pressers, Lindy's sense of humor is going to be a welcome addition, especially in a year that will surely have its share of fraught emotions. The intensity and accountability everyone craves are more digestible from a leader who can keep things in proper perspective with some well-timed and sage sarcasm (aimed at players, media, other coaches, etc). The pure 100% taskmasters rarely survive long enough to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Lindy seems to have the right balance. Donnie kind of felt like he wanted to be one of the guys but wasn't, and then couldn't pull rank.

Also, the gripes about chasing "nostalgia" rub me the wrong way. Nostalgia isn't the right word for reuniting with a franchise legend (and an NHL coaching legend) who is still firmly in the ranks of current quality coaches. It's honestly incredible that a team as damned as Buffalo has such an accomplished and capable coach in our alumni ranks. This is a guy who has lived in Buffalo for the majority of his adult life. He wants to celebrate playoff wins and championships as much as us fans. If he can't translate that passion to this group of guys, literally no one can. And in turn, we should actually rally behind him and see where this can go, rooting them on and not dwelling on the drought.

Listen to this part of his exit presser re: the fans. I'm going to be ready to run through a brick wall after his intro presser. He's not coming here to make the playoffs, he's coming here to win the Stanley Cup he's been chasing. He's stepping into as loaded a young organization as he could hope for. I imagine he'll articulate an ambitious set of expectations tomorrow that will satisfy most everyone.

I'm glad it isn't Berube or Gallant. I like Ruff as a bridge coach, he adapts his coaching and strategy to the players he has. He also holds players accountable. Assuming Bales and Wilford are staying, I'd love to see a PP specialist coach

The good with ruff is that he can almost always bring his teams to the playoffs. Get some trades this summer and we could have good times. 100 % sure making playoffs next season. More worried about playoffs as ruff havent won the cup

Kevin made his decision. Quicker than thought. Now we see if gmka keeps his job.

The key will be in the assistants and then the player evaluations and roster changes.

I sure hope this was the right call.
