This Tweet and excitement doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why would someone who was on the block last season (offered to LA), and have weak camp garner excitement from the coach?

This has to be a tire pumping and a way to boost interest.

Doesn't make more sense to have him work on his game with longer minutes on the Marlies?

Do you think he's being shopped again?

It wouldn't surpise me if he was eventually traded. i remember it said last year that a deal for Krider got close at the deadline and Lilly was in it.

Good lord please close this thread mods.

Lily has never been on the block and the rumor is that LA was insisting on him but Dubas refused which is why he had to give up so much prospect wise for Muzzin.

It has already been detailed a few times that Lily is most likely with the big club for LTIR cap purposes to farm out as much as possible for the start of the season and will likely be sent down to the Marlies today or tomorrow.

This is the most uninformed Leafs troll post in a long time.

Seems like a Babcock answer because he knows the reporters are trying to spin the 'cap issue' and hes not going to say that his player is only with the leafs as a cap-rificial lamb

Right now Liljgren isn't getting trade but it wouldn't suprise me if he was later in the year when they Leafs have to make some moves when Hyman comes back . That is if he doesn't show much until then.

I don’t remember that at all. Why would the Leafs have been in on Kreider?

edit: There were some rumours that all seem to point back to a NY Post article. No mention of Liljegren though.

Leafs have one defenseman signed next year and very little cap space. Why would they trade a guy who’s close on his ELC.

Liljegren did not have a weak camp. He looks worse relative to Sandin but no one expected Sandin to do what he did. His games were quiet but effective. He’ll play some NHL games this season.

Oh boy, this is such a stretch it isn't even funny.

This is probably the correct context. It's reported that he's here merely to fill out the opening day cap, and that has doused his joy at being on there roster. Without necessarily denying that, the coach says we're happy to have him. Nothing wrong there, and nothing to see.

A player like Liljegren is worth his weight in gold to the Leafs. If they aren't counting on him giving good, cheap defence next year then it's the next thing to it. I think he will get a chance later this year, to audition for next, and he is not at all trade fodder.

What could they possibly trade him for in any event? Certainly not a roster player, even as part of a package, and no other set of picks or prospects makes any sense.

Face it, OP, this is just a silly thread.

This is a massive Reach.

If every-time a coach complimented a player that meant they were on the block, Everyone would be on the block. It's literally there job to build up there own players.

The understory is confusing w/possible conflict, but fair to just make simple thread:
if available what is value of Lilj

usually no harm in seeing currently what a given player might fetch, even if not actually available

OP is pathetic. You might at well say leafs are naming a captain today and it's a ploy to boost the players value before a trade. You could play this game for pretty much anything.

Also please provide reputable link where Liljegren was offered in a trade and LA said no, other than fake Twitter accounts.

In here, Friedman says LA chose Durzi over Liljegren.
