Speculation: Likelihood of Oilers acquiring forward help

Kapanen for Larsson still makes a lot of sense. Edmonton could even trade for Mike Green to fill-in for Larsson for the rest of the season, which mitigates the loss of a RHD mid-season.

I think Tyler Ennis makes so much sense for the Oilers too. He can replace Nygard's speed and play up and down the lineup (Ennis-Gagner would make for a solid skilled line). Also, Donato and Athanasiou make sense in a presumed Puljujarvi deal.

Edmonton needs a top 6 winger and a 3C. But they also need scoring depth in the bottom 6. Considering all the injuries they're dealing with, I could see them adding 2-3 forwards before the deadline at reasonable prices (i.e. not a 1st without conditions). A goalie would be great for them too but it's unlikely to happen given Smith and Koskinen both have NMCs.

That wouldn't be too shabby for a playoff run, depending how they fill the Xs. The development of a 2nd dominant line has changed the entire complexion of Oiler's roster and season. Now Holland needs to find some depth pieces and, ideally, a top 6 winger (rental or long-term option). Not may Oilers fans would have expected to be in this position when the season started.

Big win today leading up to the deadline. Still say AA ends up with the Oilers unless someone else comes in with an offer Detroit can’t pass up.

The only real question is what else besides Puljujarvi is included.

So, Oilers fan buckle up. It'll be AA. Why? Because your GM is Ken Holland and he loves what he already knows. And AA has Ken Holland special written all over him.

So I ask, as I already have your first penciled into Detroit's basic, please get swept in the first round after barely making the playoffs. Detroit needs all the top 15 picks they can get.

Im not sure. He can read a stat sheet like anyone else, for one, and Athanasiou was a pain in the ass to negotiate with for another.

and even if we did squeak in and get swept, we’d draft no higher than 16th, and even then, I’d have SERIOUS questions if he dealt an unprotected first for a dude with as many goals as Alex Chiasson.

What makes you think we’d give up our 1st for him?

If Holland wouldn’t trade it for Hall it sure as hell isnt going anywhere for AA.

If anything, like you said, AA wouldn’t be an option because Holland and him haven’t seen eye to eye in negotiations. Indicating to me that Holland never seen a player worthy of a long term deal, or in that sense, someone worth a first round pick or assets.

We don’t need a true 30 goal scorer, we need a player with decent hockey sense and skill, and I’d look to players like Fabbri who just haven’t been able to break out because they don’t have the right fit.

To me I’d target Ryan Donato.

Donato could be a smart target on the cheapish, but I would like a real live NHL top six forward. The DRY line has been so good I don’t want to mess with it at all.

No Buff or Little for the season equals Jets trading away vets for picks. Jets have multi bottom pairing D to trade away and Mathieu Perreault, all would be acquired cheap.

somebody specified LW pref = Buchnevich
of course Strome
right price gets 3C Howden

but we require profit on those
Broberg, 1st + acceptable cap dump
NY can

Holland isn't going to deal the Oilers 1st in any deal this year, he has made that quite plain.

Broberg + 1st + acceptable dump can get a LOT better than what you're offering. Neither are really available so I think we can take that lopsided trade off the table.

Yeah, I mean you have 7 months of Holland to base this off of. I've only been watching him for 2 decades.

Holland goes with what he knows. He overpays. Don't be surprised when you end up with more former Red Wings wondering how Holland could be mad enough to trade what he did for it.

Except Larsson is a bruising physical shut down d that kills penalties and Green is a broken down power play specialist and the Oilers have the top power play as it is.

Everyone here has been watching him as long as you have. Do you think Detroit is on another planet?

You don’t need to get offended because people have a hard time believing he’ll give up a 1st for Athanasiou.

Fine.
Ask for help, then expect it for nothing.

What do you indiv value on the open market:
Strome
Buch
Howden

repackage that in pieces NY would want.

Let's see what you come up with.

Well as has been mentioned around here multiple times daily, it sounds like Holland has almost no interest in moving his 1st round pick. So from that you can probably gauge his willingness to trade the defenseman he just drafted 8th overall.

So scrounge together what you’d like from picks in the 2nd to 7th rounds, and prospects not drafted in the top 10, and we’ll see if there’s anything that might interest Holland from the Rangers that he can’t get anywhere else.

Judging from your list there, I’m going to say no.

This isn’t an all-in year for the oil. If they’re buying, they either need guys that are super cheap or are under team control beyond this season. JGP doesn’t meet either requirement.

Kerfoot is a reasonable target until they can add depth internally.

Tierney and Duclair for a top 10 protected first, a second and a middle of the pack prospect. the second becomes a top ten protected first if the first first rounder ends up being pick 25 or later.
