HFNHL Red Wings

Last night’s tie with the Islanders resulted in the Red Wings tying their franchise record 6 game winless streak.

Since the trading of Olaf Kolzig and Wes Walz a few weeks ago the team, plain and simple, has looked horrible. Many have pointed their fingers, maybe justifiably, at GM Niece while some others have noted the schedule and wondered if the Wings pre-trade record was an aberration and that this slump was bound to happen even without the trades.

The biggest mystery has not been increased goals against but the plain lack of offense, only Canada’s Olympic team has scored less than the Wings in the past 6 games. Mark Parrish, who at one point was tied for the league lead in goals scored, has not scored in 8 games with the last one coming against the Bruins. That mystery may now be solved.

Yesterday’s Detroit Free Press reported that a player, under the condition of anonymity, admitted the team was demoralized and frustrated with management. “We didn’t quit, management quit on us. We had given our hearts and soul to get where we were [referring to first place in the conference] only to watch management tear the team apart. It’s obvious to us that this organization is more interested in profit than winning.â€

Coincidentally, it is rumoured that Gary Roberts has demanded a trade to a contending team.

GM Niece has refused comment on these items
