He is better than Girardi and costs 1/3 of the price. Great contract but people will complain for no reason as usual.

I was hoping we had seen the last of him.

Thought he was serviceable in the regular season but his lack of athleticism was apparent.

Management likes these big stout guys from the RD position, but the problem is even though Rutta is a big man he isn't very stout on the puck, and a lot of that has to do with his below average agility that kills his leverage. Yeah he's a bit of a pylon. Maybe they think he can work on his skating this summer and improve in that area?

If he’s being counted on as a bottom pairing all year that’s probably not good. As a 7th or 8th Dman to fill out the roster I don’t see the issue.

In the grand scheme this means nothing at 1.3 Million

May I just interject by echoing everyone else’s opinion that I don’t like him, because he’s not good, but you traded kk for him and he’s not making much for a short term so just lord please don’t let cooper dotchin him up to playing with hedman.

If Rutta was 38 instead of 28 he'd be playing 30 minutes under Cooper.

If he sees significant playing time...we are screwed. He was bad vs cbus. Bad. The regular season is worthless. What does he bring in the postseason? He was trash.

So if we apply the logic that midseason defenseman acquisitions usually struggle (see McD before vs. now), this guy might actually be a decent #6 with a training camp in our system under his belt.

The positives not a long term deal with a ntc or nmc. There is only room for improvement. He has size but doesn't use it well. He is 5th defenseman signed for next year. Hopefully we can sign stralman or Coburn on one year cheap deals.

The bad it's more than league minimum and it is Rutta. I am ok with him as 6/7 if Foote gets a fair shot and can make the jump.

He was +2 against Columbus and as such the team leader. A guy for limited use for sure, but that's how he's paid too.
