This is the right call, it’s evident at this point the team has no idea what to do with him

feed him big minutes in Hartford to get his confidence back up and bring him back up after the new year

Are they going to play in a 3rd/4th line role with PK time in Hartford? That would make the most sense if that's what they want from him in the NHL. Having him go down there and play as the 1C with huge PP time and neglect defensive responsibilities won't help him when his NHL roll will be completely different.

I don't really agree with this. Lias has become tentative and unsure of himself with the puck and skating with the puck. His number one issue is his lack of "attack." The difference between the first few games of the season and where he's been in the last 5-10 is about aggressiveness on the forecheck. He's often slowing down preparing for his team to lose possession. He needs to just GO-GO-GO. Keep his feet moving, force the opposition a lot more. The good thing is, whether you're on line 1 or 4 in Hartford that is ALL they do. It's basically a team of 3rd/4th line grinders who play hard and fast for the AHL and aggressive. So, really any line he's put with will be playing the way he needs to play at the NHL.

And what if the goal is to learn to be a 3/4 center who is tasked with being defensively responsible and also creates offense. Why wouldn't you give the kid the 1c slot in Hartford and let him play under those conditions.

I was thinking maybe 2nd line minutes. Better opposition, but nothing over his head. He needs minutes, but like you said, he shouldnt be there to drive offense.
