I don't think we've seen a lot of posts about Dark recently. I don't recall too many.

How was Season 1?
It's good enough. Slow moving but well written. Season 2 gets better and season 3 looks like it could be quite interesting.

Interesting that you brought that up, was reading some quotes from her the other day: Here's one from her nude scenes in The Creamers.

  • [about the sex scenes in The Dreamers (2003):] It must be very shocking for the American people, but what I don't understand is why they are so crazy about that. I don't understand why you can't see naked people on screen but we can see a baby being killed. It's quite strange. They're too puritan, too uptight. [February 5, 2004]

BTW you wrote "Creamers" instead Dreamers, for a moment I almost had an attack thinking she had been in a porn movie. lol

But year definitely, it's a whole different mindset over there. I just find myself loving the European mindset more than the North American mindset as a whole. Not just for the nudity but in everything they do, there's never any fights or controversy whether it's coming from one side or the other. Like their women are strong and do what the Hell they want and do not hide behind the veil of feminism. They are willing to play the seduction game and do not see it as harassment. They accept that men and women are different and they let men being men. For example in Europe, sport is the domain of men and there's no big fight about equality over it. It just is. Men bring their boys to their Football(Soccer) games while the women and girls do something else.

There was a woman from France who went to live in Quebec and not only she was shocked by how men were afraid to make a move toward her but she said it was easy for her to get men from here cause she was less hostile toward them than maybe women from around here.

Did you guys know you could hover your cursor above the username in a quoted post and it'll make a small hyperlink shortcut arrow to the originally quoted post? I thought that was functionality we lost with the new forum. A real head scratcher that you'd need to hover to get the link but w/e. Hoping I'm not the last one to figure this out. :dunce:

Interesting LaPresse piece on how several specialized sports channels have incurred pretty significant losses.

The piece mentions how many subscribers have been "cord cutting" by drifting away from sports channels and favoring streaming options instead.

It will also surprise no one that almost 50% of those who are aged 30 or younger, are not at all subscribed to specialized channels.

RDS and TVA have each lost 8.5% of their subscribers over the past year.

TVA in particular is sustaining massive losses: $21 million plus pre-tax losses both over the last year and the year prior.

RDS's revenues dropped by almost 50% when compared to the year prior: last year's pre-tax earnings stood at 13.7M vs. 26.7M the year prior.

This stat is pretty telling: between 2015-18, RDS lost 611,000 subscribers (a loss of 19.4% of its subscribing base) while TVA Sports lost 332K subscribers representing a loss of 16.7% of its subscribers.

While the cord cutting phenomena is affecting all specialized channels, it has been hitting sports channels the most.

La perte d'abonnés fait mal à RDS et à TVA Sports | VINCENT BROUSSEAU-POULIOT | Médias

I doubt any of these revenue losses will eventually translate into a lesser take for sports teams like the Habs which is getting $60M in broadcast rights revenues from RDS and almost $60M from TVA Sports, as per the above article. These losses will probably translate to higher subscription fees down the line.

Can't wait for that to happen. I'm going to do some cord-cutting too.

Article also mentions how Sportsnet saw a rise in its profits last year from $106M to $131M. TSN on the other hand, incurred losses, from $118M the year before to $80M last year.

However, the article mentions how both Sportsnet and TSN have also lost subscribers in the past year: a loss of 4.7% of their subscribers for Sportsnet and a loss of 4% for TSN.

yea the way Peladeau was talking about TVA sport the other day, I would not be shocked if they closed their doors. I don't know what they would do with the NHL, maybe put it on proper TVA maybe?

1___ Finally watched End Game a few weeks back. Contrarily to many, I liked it as much as Infinity War. My only beef has more to do with the impact of the 2nd snap. Like... Oh wow isnt the cast of homecoming just lucky that they were all part of the first snap, sooo random, riight, Thanos??

And that chick sequence, so forcedfed, so cringy.:shakehead

2___ Alita, Battle Angel. Best adaptation I've seen in nearly a decade. I was mildly optimistic, but it literally blew my expectations out of the water. And Ed Norton as the bady in the sequel, now my expectations are high. Fighting sequences were great.

3___ Godzilla, King of Monsters. I'm no fan of this genre and the last one that kept my attention for the whole lenght of the movie was Cloverfield. King of monsters actually kept me pretty interested. Not as good as Cloverfield, but still entertaining. The Japanese/US co-production/collaboration made it something different, better.

4___ Menteur. Funny and entertaining, really liked it.

Hope they'll start pressuring the Habs.

I would like to see that but with $120M per year from local TV rights guaranteed to the Habs over the next several years, how would that even happen? If TVA were to pull the plug, wouldn’t RDS just step in and keep paying the same money TVA was on the hook for, over the remaining years of the deal?

Maybe when the current deal runs out?

So, I saw Hobbs & Shaw. I got to wonder if this was a superhero movie because it was beyond ridiculous. I mean, Elba was basically as described in the film, Black Superman. The tech was also crazy advanced, far beyond anything shown in Fast & Furious.

The action was over the top and the jokes were rapid fire throughout the film. It was loud and stupid AF.

I loved it.

Saving Private Ryan in WW1 :dunno:

On a sidenote, I picked up Dark Matter on Netflix. I wanted to watch a good scifi show in space and I like it so far

So this Dark Matter is completely different than “Dark”, that you posted about previously in this thread?

Can they make these titles any more generic?

I wasn't the one who was talking about Dark though! Dark Matter was a Canadian show that run through 2015-17 with mostly Canadian actors too

My bad, it was other posters who brought up Dark. Just went back and checked.

Glad you’re liking it. I’ll keep it in mind.

Dark Matter was a great scifi show, i watched it on Space a few years ago, along with killjoys and i really liked it.
I was frustrated when they decided to cancel it and let killjoys continue for like 2 extra seasons now. IMO they axed the wrong show, coz to me Dark Matter was a lot better.

It lost me too mid-way through Season 1, I finished the season hoping it was going to get better but can't say it did. Haven't watched it since episode 1 of S2

Had that kinda Lost feeling where they started with a great idea for a few shows and then struggled to back it up

Liked that show, the lead actress was nice.
Melissa O'Neil is also a pop singer.

She was hot too but I probably liked the Android more. She's so awkward and it makes it so much funnier. I liked some Easter eggs too like when Five wants to watch Star Wars 36's re-release/remastered.

Or Dark Mirror

Funny, i was thinking the same thing yesterday. Wanted to pick up a new series, and I just couldn't remember which one of Dark, Dark Matter or Dark Mirror I had read about here recently.

(Altho I remember watching the first few episodes of Dark, a 'dark' stranger things german knockoff with what looks like the impossible lovechild of Mads Mikelsen and Matthew McConaughey, playing the small town chief of police)

Forgot about the third “dark” titled series.

If I’m not mistaken, all 3 have had positive reviews here.

Went to see Hobbs & Shaw. OK here is gonna be my take on it, my view on Dwayne Johnson and (maybe?) the state of action movies(?).

Dwayne Johnson seems to be a good guy in real life, right? Yet lately in his movies he seems to be on some unlikeable narcissic tangeant . I picture him like the character in American Psycho looking himself in the mirror saying "look how ripped I am, look how strong I am". So he beats everybody and overdo the ridiculous stunts where you just don't care. If only this would be counterbalanced by the personality but his characters seem to have no heart and any sort of normal human emotion. Like a "good" version of the Terminator only even as a cold machine, Arnold had some humour to him. Of course he had Cameron behind but still. Even when Dwayne and Statham made an attempt at a joke or humour it did not work. There was some clear lack of chemistry there. What is strange is that they had some in the last Fast & Furious and so perhaps it's a directing/writing issue? A lot of actors esp. these two are not natural at it, they have not been trained for it and so need to be guided and it seems like the director was more interested in the mechanical aspect with overdoing the stunts. Whichs really by the end of the flick I was already spent and they went overboard to show how cool Dwayne was. It was pointless. Cause the story did not support it. And you a lot of different stuff to make a movie work. Not just fights and stunts. You need great characters, writing, you need to do the right things at certain times. Spoiler....

Ryan Reynolds was in the movie for about 5 minutes and Lord you cannot believe how refreshing it was. This movie would have needed him for the whole thing, really. That's where you realise that not everybody can balance their movies the right way like Marvel. Everybody does movies but yet one entity get to the finish line and can do this. the others are dropping the ball most of the time. the Fast & Furious franchise was something that was not Marvel yet they had managed to do their own thing and be successful but this was one stunt too many times where they finally jumped the shark.

Statham was OK. He was mainly Dwayne's sidekick really. He fought and did stunts too but so what really. I will say it's the movie that I have liked Statham the least. He was really badly used. Take a movie I find mediocre, the Meg, which Statham was part of it. It had some problems but Statham was better from frame one to the last the way they had him play off the other characters than he was on H & S.. He was the big serious macho guy and the others would react to him like he was an alien and it worked. That is how you do comedic moments and use someone like that. If it's a bunch of big macho guys bumping into each other with the same line delivery who cares. I think that was the problem, both guys were straight men in a comedy routine and no clowns to do the stupid shit.

Dwayne Johnson was good in Jumanji though. He let his guard down, he was playing a guy that was a kid inside a big strong man and really that was the key playing a child inside a man's body, he was charming, he had a pulse, it worked. He should stay away from the boring cold "badass" guys, it feels like just an ego trip at this point. Look John Mclane changed the action heroes forever by playing a human with mistakes and fears in Diehard, not sure why Rock want to go back to the cold uber machines of the past. There's a reason they went away cause something better appeared, you know?
