My new team:

Neiderreiter -- Gourde -- Voracek
Bailey -- Domi -- Tarasenko
Kerfoot -- Danault -- Donskoi
Tanev -- Tierney -- Jarnkrok

Extras: Namestnikov, A. Wagner, MacEwen, Gauthier, Khaira, Bunting

Giordano -- Oleksiak
Soucy -- Fleury
Simek -- Zadorov

Extras: Lauzon, Borgen, DeMelo

Driedger
Vanacek
Wedgewood (AHL)

Cap: $76,041,666m

However, I have to sign Danault (UFA), Khaira & Bunting at forward, Oleksiak (UFA), Borgen & Zadorov on D & Driedger (UFA).

Probably don't have enough cap room for all that. Would need to flip Giordano and DeMelo without retention.

Okay, quick draft. Too lazy to pinpoint the players being flipped and the contract signings (maybe I'll come back later), but here are the choices. Seattle is probably going to pick a couple more minor leaguers to reduce cap hit and sign free agents instead but I went with more NHLers for this simulation.

Total cap hit: 74.6 million

F (15)
Tarasenko (STL)
Van Riemsdyk (PHI)
Domi (CLB)
Gourde (TB)
Donskoi (COL)
Tierney (OTT)
Kerfoot (TOR)
Jarnkrok (NAS)
Wagner (LA)
Fischer (ARI)
Nietto (SJ)
Blackwell (NYR)
Aston-Reese (PIT)
Benson (EDM)
Bellows (NYI)

D (12)
Giordano (CAL)
DeMelo (WPG)
Soucy (MIN)
Kulak (MTL)
Stetcher (DET)
Fleury (ANA)
Lauzon (BOS)
Borgen (BUF)
Sissons (NJ)
Bean (CAR)
Gleason (DAL)
Zadorov (CHI)

G (3)
Holtby (VAN)
Driedger (FLO)
Vanecek (WSH)

Donato - Domi - Bailey
Drouin - Kerfoot - Compher
Johnsson - Gourde - Namestnikov
Lemieux - Cousins - Hayden

Giordano - Miller
Hagg - DeMelo
Lauzon - Shattenkirk
(Brown, Dillon, DeAngelo, Lagesson, Bowey, Sekera, Bean, Soucy, Bortuzzo)

Driedger
De Smith
(Subban)

Here is my definite team, after seeing how inconsistent Zucker has been lately. I didn't want to get my team in cap hell and tried to ice the best team possible all that while keeping the expenses at a bare minimum.

Trading away, say, DeAngelo, Dillon, Bortuzzo, Sekera, Soucy, Brown and Lagesson without taking on salary would put this team something like 22M under the salary cap. More than enough to strike some good deals on the UFA market. Especially to improve that RW position.

I think there is a decent chance Cale Fleury is their pick. Hoping it's not though, I'd like to see what he develop into.

Kulak could be the pick too since there isn't much in terms of D on cheap deals who can play every night.

Seattle could probably trade Kulak for a 4th, or something.

I've seen Seattle fans talk about selecting Fleury. That's interesting because they can re-unite the Fleury brothers.

I'm 100% positive they will take Hayden Fleury from Anaheim. Francis was GM in Carolina when they selected him. Ditto Bean, so I think they take him too.

The issue with Cale is he's waivers eligible. There's so many NHL D available that I can't see him making their team.

If he goes on waivers there's no way he isn't claimed: a young, big, hard skating, hard hitting right D. Yeah, not clearing.

Probably wouldn't even get by Buffalo, if they do New Jersey, Arizona, LAK, Anaheim, Detroit would all likely put a claim in.

So scratch my last mock draft. Here is the best one I could come up with after many tries:

Picks:
Anaheim: Alexander Volkov RW
Arizona: John Hayden C
Boston: Nick Ritchie LW
Buffalo: Colin Miller RD
Calgary: Mark Giordano LD
Carolina: Jake Bean LD
Chicago: Adam Gaudette C
Colorado: J.T. Compher RW
Columbus: Max Domi C
Dallas: Joel Hanley LD
Detroit: Troy Stecher RD
Edmonton: Jujhar Khaira C
Florida: Chris Driedger G
Los Angeles: Brendan Lemieux LW
Minnesota: Kaapo Kahkonen G
Montreal: Brett Kulak LD
Nashville: Ryan Johansen C
New Jersey: Andreas Johnsson LW
NY Islanders: Jordan Eberle RW
NY Rangers: Keith Kinkaid G
Ottawa: Josh Brown D
Philadelphie: James Van Riemsdyk LW
Pittsburgh: Zach Aston-Reese C
San Jose: Matt Nieto LW
St. Louis: Samuel Blais RW
Tampa Bay: Yanni Gourde C
Toronto: Travis Dermott LD
Vancouver: Jake Virtanen RW
Washington: Brenden Dillon LD
Winnipeg: Dylan DeMelo RD

Starting lineup:
James Van Riemsdyk - Ryan Johansen - Jordan Eberle
Nick Ritchie - Max Domi - J.T. Compher
Andreas Johnsson - Yanni Gourde - Jake Virtanen
Brendan Lemieux - Adam Gaudette - Samuel Blais
(Matt Nieto)
Forwards: $48,066,000

Mark Giordano - Colin Miller
Travis Dermott - Dylan DeMelo
Brenden Dillon - Troy Stecher
(Brett Kulak, Josh Brown)
Defensemen: $23,775,000

Chris Driedger
Kaapo Kahkonen
Goalies: $4,225,000

Total cap hit: $76,066,000

I think this team has:
- A very solid C lineup (Johansen, Domi, Gourde and Gaudette)
- Some good mix of grit and skills on every line
- Some good mix of stay-at-home and puck-moving Ds
- A killer 4th line that would give fits to other teams
- Quality veteran presence (Giordano would be captain, Gourde and Eberle definitely get the A's)
- Some cheap, quality goaltending
- Plenty of financial flexibility to bring adjustments as soon as the 2022 summer

I also think there's enough organizational depth in there to flip a Troy Stecher/Dylan DeMelo/Brenden Dillon for draft picks.

Well, with all those Seattle picks, looks like my mock draft is way off. lol

I too made the mistake of thinking Seattle would take decent players. I understand wanting flexibility, but you also need talent.

Seems like they told teams they would only take bigger contracts if incentivized and they stuck to it at to the detriment of their roster.

I mean they really went out of their way to take no one good especially at forward.
