Hi, I'm a bit interested to know more about Lester & Frank Patrick as players. This site says Lester's inducted into the HHOF as a player and Frank as a builder. If Lester was the better player, then by how much? Also if one could compare them, separately, to a modern player, who would that be?

Frank also scored quite a lot of goals and points for a defenseman, even if you account for the era. Did he play forward at times? I guess he at least didn't play a lot of rover with the Millionaires because the team already had two great players who could play that position in Taylor and MacKay. Or did he coattail a lot offensively on said players?

There's certainly a case that Frank was as good as Lester when they both played, but that Frank just had a much shorter career as a player.

I also have this impression that Lester was a finesse player. Mostly because of his corny looks. Was Frank also a finesse player or more physical? At least both were more offensive minded than Moose Johnson, even though Johnson started as a LW with the Wanderers.

From what I have gathered on Lester Patrick, he was a finesse player. He was very tall for his era, but didn't often engage in physical play or intimidation. Skating and passing seem to have been the strongest parts of his game.

Frank Patrick, on the other hand, seemed to have been a lot more willing to play the physical game, though he was no less skilled. He was likely one of the best fighters of his time, but didn't do it overly often. He seems to have been more of a rusher than passer, and it appears he was good defensively as well.

Lester easily put together the better career, but it appears that Frank was the better player when both were on the ice.

Why do you think Frank was better when both were on the ice? Both played in the PCHA from 1912-1918 and while Frank was a PCHA All-Star a couple of times over Lester, Lester has the better overall record. (I'm aware the PCHA All-Star Teams are just the opinion of Mickey Ion).

Frank was 26 in 1912 and Lester was 28, so was Frank better before they both joined the PCHA?

^ Where can one find the best source for those all star teams listed in the second post?
