I think you're right, he's going to show his qualities in the playoffs in the role he's been given.

I just did a search. I can't believe the unfair criticism by our fans. One day he's voted an all-star/loved, and then hated two seasons later? What's to hate? He mostly does match-up and PK assignments. Is he doing those things badly? No! Our PK is fine.

Agreed.

I believe it went downhill for him when his line mate went into an extended slump. He became the reason for it.

No one was calling for him to be demoted at the beginning of the season.

It’s ok to have a line shake up. Marner has been moved around before. The negative focus he gets though is unreal.

He has declined quite a bit which happens to guys over 30 who play a pest-style game
He's mainly a PK specialist now
babcock had him miscast for far too log this year

But People aren’t being critical of his PK play, they’re critical of his play with the puck - and the numbers are clear as day compared to a couple season ago - he’s a LOT worse in this regard.

And what I mean by that is why the effort? You really want to take time out of your day to prove that a 4th line PK specialist is not deserving of praise, ice time, or admiration from fans?

That is how I see it!

Perhaps Leo stayed too long in the top 9 but look at the development and lessons learnt by Marner, Willy and Brown during this season. All of them are playing at a top level and have become better 200 feet players this year.

Leo will always be available for shut down #1 line minutes both at 5x5 when we have a lead and pk. Adds a great dimension to any 4th line in the league and is a great support to Kappy. We need to give credit to everyone I mentioned for accepting their roles and a huge shoutout to Leo for taking any role to help us win!!

Though, this is a forum dedicated to talking about the Leafs - with that I think we have to discuss the lows and well as the highs for the team. It’s not as if I’m calling the guy names or anything.
