With almost all of the forward spots locked up, and assuming Nylander is signed. It looks like we have one question mark that is likely to line up on Kadri's left wing. You have you guys who are fighting hard for it and both should have the ability to create some offence...

Leivo or Ennis

If other, then who?

Marleau Matthews Nylander
Hyman Tavares Marner
XXX - Kadri - Brown
Johnsson - Lindholm - Kap

Both? Leivo, Kadri and Brown is a really good line, so far anyway, and Ennis will likely be able to jump in and out of most lines to provide depth.

The lines right now indicate that kind of usage of Ennis. Also, it's possible Johnsson see's some pressbox while Ennis gets some games.

I prefer Leivo because of his skillset, age and he's got a little more room to grow as a player whereas Ennis will probably be a player with very little value long-term.

Johnsson can play on the 3rd line.

Ennis or Leivo can rotate in and out of the 4th spot.
I'd say Ennis has the edge right now but haven't been privy to the workouts.

This is only a one game sample size. Ennis, probably due to his exp, knows how to get open and be in position of his strengths. Where Leivo wants to do everything bc he knows he needs to impress.
If Leivo wants a spot, he needs to play to his strengths, which is to use his shot.

Cant really say. Two way different styles. But if Ennis plays like the buffalo Ennis...I'm sorry but he suits our style way more. Now if the unthinkable happens and we trade Nylander then they both make it

Either way, think it's a stopgap to Johnsson being ready to be promoted to the Kadri line and/or Grundstrom being ready to become a full-time Leaf. There doesn't have to be a clear standout candidate in terms of contract etc., so it should be a good competition over the rest of the preseason. (Very) early advantage to Ennis in my view - and I think he could emerge - but can't imagine it's close to a sure thing at this point.

Likely one gets the spot opening night and the other is the 13th coming up for injuries. They may rotate the two to see who grabs the role.

Leivo is playing better now. Showing a lot more life than previous years.

I was a vocal Leivo detractor for years, but he's finally changed.

Ennis needs to be significantly better than the younger Leivo who is a bigger player and still might have a higher upside.

Ennis can sit in the press box without hindering his development, and might be able to fill in as an injury replacement up and down the lineup.

Leivo is a work in progress the Leafs need to use or lose.

If Ennis is noticeably better than Leivo, the Leafs should cut Leivo loose and find a better prospect -- which is probably not all that hard to do.

If the Leafs have to struggle to discern who is a better fit now, they should make Ennis the 13th forward and play Leivo until they know for sure who to play in that spot.

leivo still takes alil time to get going, but once he gets going his skating is solid enough now, its as good as its gonna get by now this is his 8th or 9th camp

as long as leivo keeps this energy up for 2 weeks, game after game he should make opening night, cause he sometimes has inconsistent motor from game to game

come on leivo, hes facing the weakest competition for opening night in his 8 years as a leaf...he just gotta beat out ennis or grundstrom...if he cant do that, then jeezes

a better question at this point would be Johnsson or Ennis.

One bad preseason game for Johnsson shouldn't take away how good he was last season in the AHL season/playoffs, and his 9 game NHL sample size.

I know you're on this Leivo tirade right now and I'm a fan too, but it doesn't mean we need to take it out on AJ. I mean, the guy had way better underlying stats in harder comp last year.

Im hoping Leivo steps up huge.

We could use a bigger guy with Marleau - Matthews to even out facing teams like Nashville, winnipeg and SanJose.

Especially in the playoffs!

As of right now, Ennis shines a bit more.
Wont judge his size since Marchand gave us fits and is a smaller guy, and our Calder MVP AJ same size
