Devils need to add a legitimate goal scorer to help out Jack Hughes and have the assets to do so.

two 1sts
one 2nd
two 3rds
and a plethora of forward prospects who are NHL ready (Jesper Boqvist, Janne Kuokkanen, Yegor Sharangovich, Nolan Foote, Graeme Clarke, etc.)

Looking at teams like TB, VAN, STL, VGK, NYI who may run into some problems with the flat cap or expansion draft this offseason

Holtz and Mercer are not available.
I think you're better off allowing the rebuild to run its course than to trade picks and younger players to add a top 6 winger, who probably won't get the Devils into playoff contention anyway. As a Leafs fan, I know it sucks, but remain patient and New Jersey's time will come.

I'm not saying to stop the rebuild, but the Devils have had so many picks the past 3-4 years and have so many prospects already that trading a combo of picks/prospects wouldn't hurt whatsoever

they need legit wingers for Hughes.

My bad, I must have misinterpreted what you were saying. I can see why you would want some good wingers for Hughes.

Perhaps Timo Meier would be a good fit. He can bring some size to Hughes' line and he has scored 30 goals in the past. Given his subpar performance this season, his price may not be too steep, but you would be betting that he can find his goal-scoring touch again.

You could also sign Hoffman in the off-season.

Foote and Holtz coming up in the system as legit goal scorers (hopefully) why not just use the 1st in this draft that has a lot of decent defenseman
I think the OP wants a top 6 winger to help with Hughes' development.

I would love to have Timo Meier

is he really available?
That I am not sure. He is underperforming this year relative to his previous years, but Sharks are within reach of final playoff spot in the West Division (5 points back with 2 games in hand) so the only way they trade him is for an upgrade (or at least I am assuming so). If New Jersey had an upgrade available, this thread wouldn't exist.

I think you are better off using your cap space to sign a free agent rather than giving up assets to get 16 ish games out of a player.

I would target someone like Hoffman or maybe even Saad on a 3 year deal. Overpay for them, let them play with Hughes and sell them off in their final year at 50% to get more assets. I am pretty sure you would have enough players on ELC (Holtz, Foote), that you would be able to do that.

If Landeskog hits free agency (a 0% chance of happening unless he wants out of Colorado for a personal reason or something), I would be all over that.

JVR for a 2nd pre-expansion. Keep him for a 1.5 years, then flip him as an expiring contract to re-coup your 2nd. Gives you a goalscorer bridge to a younger kid.

This wouldn't be too bad for NJ but I would wait til after the expansion draft. We are fine with forwards to protect.

It's unlikely but not impossible that Ondrej Palat could become available in the summer. Alex Killorn will almost certainly be moved.

Vrana is certainly the type of player we're envisioning here. I'd imagine our NHL-ready ELCs would be of particular interest to the Caps.

I like Mantha a lot, but I don't expect Yzerman to sell him cheaply. We're targeting potential cap/ED casualties here (i.e., slight discount); Mantha doesn't exactly fit the bill.

I'd love either of those guys. I agree Vrana is the more likely option

I don't hate it... Shero was in on JVR ( per him ) when the Flyers signed him. Doesn't seem like a guy Fitzy will go after though

Maybe Hoffman but he's been more of a PP specialist this season. I have absolutely no interest in Saad. He's a 3rd liner at this point

The Devils haven’t had a lot of picks in first two rounds until the two extra 1sts last year. (But no 2nd.) I don’t see us as a team overflowing with high end prospects and not needing extra swings in the 1st round still.

I also don’t think wingers are bigger need than defense or are harder to get them defensemen and therefore what you spend your best assets on.

I’d recommend johnathan drouin from Montreal . Say a 2021 3rd and a 2022 1st .

Odds are you don't get a high end prospect with a late first. I think there's a decent chance we end up with a Hughes or Clarke with our pick. If you can move the Isles first plus a decent prospect for a good top 6 winger then I'd definitely do that.
