Nice to see us scoring 5 on 5. Our pp hasn't looked very good since Kuzy and Oshie gave been out. Eller has been a disaster on the first pp unit. All he has done is turn over the puck.
For those that disagree. We are 3 out of 13 attempts in the 5 games that Eller has been in the top unit. He has zero points and was only in the ice for one of those pp goals. The 2nd unit got one of those pp goals and another goal was a 4 on 3 in OT.

Not worried about our PP long term. Osh and Kuz make a huge difference, plus Ovi's shot has been off a bit lately. Long term these things will be fine.

We are 3-for-17 on the PP in the 5 games before Kuznetsov and Oshie got hurt. Was that Eller's fault too?

Maaco has partially convinced me on Eller.

He's not good enough offensively to be more than a low end 2c and not good enough defensively to be an ideal 3c.

I don't think you're gonna get a better player for 3.5M AAV on the free market though, so I'm still happy to have Eller on the team. I just think if Eller is your 2c, you're probably not a good team. 3C on a good team is a good fit.

I'm sure we are fine long term. My point was that I didnt think Eller should have been on the first pp unit while Kuzy was out. I would have rather seen Vrana in that spot.

With Eller as the 3rd center then we have to use the Backstrom line as our checking line which actually might be hurting Backstroms 5 on 5 production.
Maybe we should use Eller on the wing and move Stephenson to center. I think part of Stephensons struggles is that he has played on all 4 lines and has never had regular linemates. He has also been playing both the left and right wing but he hasn't played his natural position which is center. He should be our checking center and maybe he should be our faceoff specialist as well. He seems to be our best faceoff man.

I think the problem is more Eller than Wilson. Eller has been a turnover machine in the pp.
Wilson hasn’t done much himself in the Brouwer Spot (aka the Shankapotamous Site). Just for grins, I’d try Connolly, Vrana, DSP, or even bura, to see if any have the knack for the quick, high-slot one-timer.

No but the pp looked better. With Eller in we can't seem to even get set up.

Power play looked like a turd on a stick before people got hurt and continues to look like it after.

I mean, way to cherry pick some stats to pile on Eller. We know you don't like him. Literally, everybody knows you don't like him. My grandma knows you don't like him and she thinks that internet is something you use to catch fish.

Check this out. The power play got better after Kuznetsov and Oshie got hurt. I attribute this to Eller's magnificence.

That was a quality win this afternoon. That goalie is on fire and the Rangers are a good fast team.

Keep piling up The wins without two of the worlds best players in the lineup. We used to envy the Pens for this type of stuff. Young fast players who perform in the post season too.

Vrana reminds me a LOT of a young Peter Bondra out there.

He’s coming into his own. Might have a budding all star level guy. I’m much more optimistic about his future than I ever have been. I haven’t seen anything really elite from him like Bondra immediately flashed when you saw him like the slapper or the skating....but he’s looking really good.

I want my 3C to possess the puck in their end, that’s the best defense for the 3rd line, by that measure he’s very good defensively. Richards and Morrison were fair defensively but were postseason anchors on possession. I just went through the Ovechkin era and the only time the 3rd line didn’t kill us in the postseason was when it was centered by Arnott who’s another possession guy. The knock on Eller has always been he hangs on to the puck, on PP1 that’s a liability but on the 3rd line it can be an asset.

Eller gets up when motivated.

Yeah, that means over 82 games he's not always going to be nailing every scenario, sometimes he just doesn't make plays and other times it's like he doesn't trust his wingers not to bungle the possession (and to be fair, with Burakovsky, that's kind of excusable). But the guy tends to get up to play big center match ups and big games, so if that's the biggest wart in your 3c I think you're in good hands.
