Don't look now but the NYI have the best record at 7-2 so far this season. This is despite having only 4 healthy defenseman so far with both Sutton and Chelios being out with 1 week injuries (even our 7th DF was injured). Leading the way for the NYI is Belfour (7-1, 2 SO, 1.20 GAA, and .944 saves %) and Tkachuk (6 goals, 13 points, +9). The NYI first 3 lines consist of:

P. Marleau Keith Tkachuk Shane Doan Mathieu Schneider Adam Foote
D. Weight Matt Cooke Cory Stillman Andy Sutton Aaron Miller
B. Holik Erik Cole B. Radivojevic Chris Chelios Willie Mitchell

Because of injuries both Schnieder and Foote have been double shifted and played amazing considering their ice time (high 20's). It would be interested to see what happens when all the defenceman are healthy.

Because of the injuries and lack of depth (4th line) the NYI made a trade a couple of weeks ago picking up Brown (67 DF), Rheaume (65 LW), and Caron (67 Goalie). The Islanders would still like to pick up 4th line players and upgrade on their backup goalie (we can include Caron in the trade for a goalie). Because of salary cap considerations, these players need to have moderate salaries and the NYI would be willing to give up prospects and mid round draft choices. The Islanders would be also willing to trade for a defenseman with a high passing rating. Please send any proposals to [email protected].
