Glad we won but man does marleau ever suck on 2 on 1's. seems like he is on the receiving end every other game and never scores
And yet, it's totally unacceptable for Hymen and Komarov to whiff on scoring chances and get vilified for it. Marleau seems to get a pass, despite being well paid!

Its nice to see Rielly doing so well offensively this year (his 1st in xGF/60 among the leafs D) but once again his 5 vs 5 defensive numbers are somewhat underwhelming.
xGA/60- 2.9 (last among Leafs D for players with at least 20 games played)
high danger chances against per 60- 12.83 (last among Leafs D with at least 20 games played)
actual GA/60- 2.5 (only Borgman is worst)

On the other side Gardiner's numbers is surprisingly good despite all the crap he receives on these forum for his defensive game
xGA/60- 2.47 (3rd among Leafs D with at least 20 games)
HDCA/60- 10.05 (3rd among Leafs D)
actual GA/60- 2.07 (only Dermott, who wasn't here when Freddy was struggling, has better results)
I really hope Gardiner gets resigned, losing him will be a huge blow for the Leafs defence.

Here's the numbers I can see: Corsica | Skater Stats

1) these numbers are 5v5
2) these numbers are all score/zone adjusted

Corsi Against Relative to Team - the lower the number here the better:

1.Carrick -3.3
2.Rielly -1.1
3.Jake -1.0
4.Dermott -0.8
5.Borgman -0.3
6.Hainsey +0.1
7.Polak +3.3
8.Zaitsev +4.4

Actual Goals Against Relative to Team - again, the lower the better:

1.Dermott -0.9
2.Hainsey -0.2
3.Jake -0.1
4.Rielly -0.1
5.Polak -0.1
6.Carrick +0.3
7.Borgman +0.3
8.Zaitsev +0.5

What makes this most impressive for Mo is that he (and Hainsey) get by far the toughest matchups - they play against the other team's top lines pretty much every shift.

I would gladly forfeit these 2 points to have a healthy Matthews back! :whine:

How do Ziatsev and Jake have such different stats when they play most of the time together. Was Jake that good when Z was out?

it's a good question.

part of the reason why is definitely that Jake did much better when Zaits was out, and another part of the reason is that there's a not insignificant amount of time that the two play at the end of special teams, when technically it's even strength but in effect the PP is still on and the puck hasn't come out yet - except for Jake all that bonus time is PP time where they've got the other team pinned in their end, while for Zaits all that bonus time is PK time where the leafs are pinned in their own end at the tailend of a penalty kill.

Fair enough but still surprising considering those half shifts at the end of the PP/PK make up such a small portion of total ice time for Z and Jake.

If we escape without injuries I call it a win. It’s like the schedule makers were gearing up for a pre playoff brawl.

yeah I dunno. Buffalo is their #1 worst nemesis win-loss statistic wise. It's something like 1win-4loss all time average vs these guys. not sure that will ever change for whatever strange reason.

If there's somehow 4 games still to go against the Sabres, then history says they'll win 1 and lose 3.
