That wasn't what was being discussed. The OP said that we could use a player of Simmonds Calibre, and you replied with "but a 21-24" year old version. I replied that I'd be quite content with having Simmonds on my team at current age as well.

I'd want a 21-24 year old version because physical pwf do decline heavily at 30, so why waste top assets for Simmonds when we could use those assets for a younger version?

The way you put it, it's like I'm saying no to Simmonds for free. It's that I've factored in the assets needed and the fact pwf decline quicker into my decision of wanting a 21-24 year old version.

Honestly it's Matthews expression on the bench that was the most concerning. The pain on his face and the frustrated muttering on his way to the locker room didn't look good at all.

Guess we'll see.

Glad we won but man does marleau ever suck on 2 on 1's. seems like he is on the receiving end every other game and never scores

My point is that we could use a Simmonds type player on our team regardless of his age. What I'd be willing to give up for him is an entirely different conversation. I do get what you're saying though.

it's been a BS argument to discredit this team from the word jump.

The Atlantic has 4 of the bottom 7 teams in the league... 50% of the worst 8 teams. Atlantic is weak sauce. Although I don't think Our record would falter much in any other division. We're a top 8 team I would think, not too far off from our 5th placement right now.

Sure, and my point is I don't want to waste assets for a Simmonds type player at his age. If we're talking about having Simmonds without giving up any assets, well off course anyone would take him.

We’ve also not played the Atlantic that much. We have what 4 games against Buffalo in March?

Glad for the win, but dang it. I miss the third and Matthews gets hurt. Hope it isn’t too serious. At least there is no pressure to rush him back...

If we escape without injuries I call it a win. It’s like the schedule makers were gearing up for a pre playoff brawl.

I thought his head got hit, and it might be concussion protocol. Usually players get mad if they feel like they're alright.

Hopefully it wasn't.

Take Austin out of the line up for a few weeks so that he can get super healthy. No point playing him if he's hurt. we are already in the playoffs. A well rested and healthy Mathews is ideal for a playoff run.

Yup looks like a top 8 team to me. Like I said I don't think our record would be much different in a different conference. But, that doesn't take away from the fact that the Atlantic is by far the weakest conference homing 4 bottom feeders all in the hunt for Dahlin.

But if the Leafs aren't as good as people think they are and are benefiting for being in the Atlantic, wouldn't they be closer in points to Florida and and Detroit than they are to Boston and Tampa? The Leafs are 5th in the league at the moment in points...all top 5 teams have 80 plus points.

Was at the game.

Rielly can fly. Damn

Gardiner actually is as bad as he looks on TV....sorry to say.

That Barzal is the real deal. Best player out of both teams combined tonight. Dangerous every shift.

If you're the other team you target guys like Matthews on purpose. Hit him hard, to hurt, whenever you can. His career will be shorter and less productive than it could be, unless Lou gets busy making a team a lot tougher. He's got some good guys but they need to be traded for the right guys.

I'm thinking he was already playing hurt and this just aggravated something that was already bothering him.

I agree.
I think he's been playing hurt since his first injury.....a couple of games ago he was bent over and seemingly in pain going to, and on, the bench.
I don't think he's had that incredible snap on his wrist shot since then either .
I'm not an MD but I have back issues and every time I get a little bump or twist, I aggravate it...hope that's not his problem but we shall see.

Well, we've played the most games in the league ranging from 2 more games minimum to 5 more games and we just got 80 points so a team like the Jets will probably get to 80 points before the Leafs making us the 6th fastest team to 80. regardless like I said we're a good team playing in the weakest conference. People who think we should be closer to Florida than Boston are out to lunch, But they aren't lying when they say we play in weak, weak conference. That's just a fact. Tampa and Boston also play in the same weak conference, that's just how it goes.

Yeah, but some folks use the "we're playing in a weak conference" reasoning to try and discredit the fact that we're a good team and the main reason we're in the playoffs is because we're in a weak conference which is complete bogus. Try using that reasoning on Tampa and Boston, doesn't work either.

Lindholm's better. This is the song that never ends... yes it goes on and on my friend... some people started singing it no knowing what it was, but they continued singing it forever just because... this is the song-

I'm ok taking Matthews out to let him fully heal. Going to be hard to get higher than #3 in the Atlantic, I want him fully healthy....and it's a good chance to let others step up in his absence.

Also, I thought our neutral zone/defensive play was terrible tonight.....Nylander was awful a few times...JVR is almost a pylon at times. Bozak had his moments but I generally thought he was solid tonight.

I think it's a personnel issue we need to address if want to take the next step. With Nylander, your optimistic he'll get better at it, it seems to be more of a compete/maturity issue with him than anything.
