I'll take the result over most of the previous second games of back-to-backs but they've definitely had at least 5 more convincing wins, like back when the PP was clicking and they were averaging 4 goals/game.

The most important thing is that they were far more entertaining to watch than during the snoozefest against Detroit on Friday. This roster should never play a boring game.
They definitely look boring when they get outworked for 3 periods. The hard truth is that teams like Detroit will play every game against the Leafs like its the cup finals because they've got a chip on their shoulder. Contenders not so much.

I have faith that this team can match anyone's intensity in the playoffs. We need to learn to do it during the regular season against bottom feeders with something to prove, because we're simply not structured enough to coast through them like the more seasoned top teams.

Kapanen does not get enough credit. He is noticeable every shift he is on the ice.
I'm flipping Nylander to keep him.

Beast tonight. Kadri, Marner, Kappy they were our best 3 forwards tonight.

Rielly and Dermot our best Two D man.

Sparks played well tonight after a shaky start.

Zaitsev tried hard to cost us the game tonight. He is stupid and his panic level is dangerously high in key situations. Icing the puck nearly every time in the 3rd.
The rest of the D were good.

Those icings. Late in the third felt very dangerous. TB would have capitalized 3 times.

Dermott has a terrible icing off of an icing too. He wasnt flawless by any means

Slow burn on him. He was arguably our best forward in the playoffs last year, too.
No he wasn't, Marner wass. Marleau was great though, but Mitch could have legitimately stolen the show if he was given 20+ minutes TOI after the first two games like he deserved.

Hes got Marincin-itis. I dont care what the advanced numbers say, his mistakes are catastrophic and not worth his contract.

Marty's favourite movie was launching the puck unpressurd over the glass for a penalty, or just taking bone head penalties.

Zaitsev hears a shadow coming and tosses a pizza right to the nearest opposition player.
So forced turnovers from good play by the opposition strong forcheck is his major faults? You do realize that if that's his faults that makes him a good D men. All D men doesn't matter who will make mistakes when FORCED ON THEM. Maybe some of the Leafs forwards should take notice, up there compete on the forcheck because that's the key to being a good defensive team. The Leafs forcheck and puck recovery game is the worst part of the teams game not the Defensive zone or the 6 D men.

It's a recording that Babcock must be ready to lose his mind about compete. He get's some guys on board some nights and other nights 2 or 3 players but never the whole squad all year from the forwards and it makes the D men look bad. The only constant is Kaps, Hyman and JT. RJ brings compete but he has another issue that frankly makes him dispensable for trade in that he has poor balance on his skates. He spends half the game picking himself up from the ice on the forcheck that just ends up being an easy out for the opposition.

Lets focus where the real problems on this team are. It's up front, the lack of consistent compete and the desire to get the puck.

Uh yes?

I defenseman to have composure and not crumble on a forecheck

That's the quietest in net Sparks has been in a Leafs uniform.

Great effort from so many players. Muzzin what an add.
we don't need noise from sparks. just saves.
the less we notice him , the better his game. Kinda like Gardiner.

My favourite part was Crosby and Letang being -2.

At one point the announcer mentioned that JT and Crosby were duelling each other to a standstill.

Good game vs a solid team in Pens.

Matthews lookin good since his contract talks went 'good'.

Biggest thing I noticed all game was Kapanen. How he darts in and out of areas with the puck. He finds an open area and takes it to the net or fires a good shot.

We NEED to lock this guy up now.

He might not be as graceful like Marner in dancing and weaving his way through players for open ice. But Kap does it the same way as JT or a Crosby. He muscles his way through with the puck.

Hes a year or two in developing his hands to match his foot speed. Bank on it.

He plays like this in the playoffs and we will be solid. He is way more well rounded than Nylander and should be way cheaper to retain.

Go leafs!

Kapanen is the that perfect blend of skill and grit. No you don’t have to lay out guys, no you don’t have to fight... but being tenacious is important and Kapanen has the perfect amount of it.

Nylander wouldn’t be struggling like he is, if he had kapanens grit.

I loved when the Crowd roared as Muzzin laid out a big hit.

Shows the fans still do like hockey as they're pretty quite during the figure skating portion of the event.

Is that you, Don?

The reactions to sick dangles, sweet passes and wicked snipes are as loud if not more so.

I am still smiling that Hyman got the game winner.
Many here complain about he has no 'hands'..heck he used his foot this time!
That guy brings it every night. The player we NEED on the team...
he will never get demoted by Babs.

It's great that he scored what, his 4th 5v5 goal of the season, but his hands are still stony and his passing in particular is awful.
