It's really time to get over this thinking that Hyman doesn't have talent. he was 4th among forwards in goals, produced top 6 ES points on the team. He has improved his numbers every single year. Add to this he has an exceptional cap hit for his production.
Nothing to 'get over'...he has no talent! Did you see those goals? I'd bet that any other top 6 forward (and some 3rd/4th liners) would produce more than Hyman while playing alongside Marner and JT. I keep using the Boston example for poeple who think like you...Would you rather have Pasternak or Hyman ? I think the difference is huge!

well my point being was that Hyman was in the top 6 on back to back 100 point seasons nothing wrong with him on that line, you clearly do not see the value of having a Hyman on that line, too blind to see I suppose....
So....you don't think it could be better? A 100 point season is success to you? Leaf fan acceptance of mediocrity at its finest...Babs can't get out of the first round with his strategy of having a plug on the top line...awesome!

The only thing as pointless as the regular season is the playoffs
Cup or no cup
is what matters

There wouldn't be much 'dirty work' if he knew what he was doing...Any other top 6 winger in the league and likely half the other wingers would be better than Hyman...No team would trade the Leafs straight up for any of their top 6 wingers...and I don't blame them.

There’s always dirty work to be done. Hyman does it all, which allows guys like Matthews, Marner, and Nylander to cruise the easy ice. There’s a reason everyone wants Hyman in their line.

Most of the difference between Pastrnak and Hyman last year was in PP points. Pastrnak has a whole 48 Non-PP points last year. Hyman had 41. Pastrnak and Hyman had the same amount of goals when you take away the PP! Is Pastrnak a great PP specialist, sure. But at ES, they are pretty much a wash in pts/60 ES and Hyman is 1/3 the AAV.

That wont happen and you know it. When Marner falters in a game, you know damned well that the usual ankle biters will take as many opportunities to slam him and his contract. As things settle down, it will be fun reviewing some of the juicier player predictions around here. Seems to be an annual tradition to laugh at the Marner haters. Until then, lets enjoy Tavares carrying him and his confounded puck luck.
nylander was the best player on the ice 2 games ago, last game he was only good(led leafs with 6 shots) and people were calling for him to be traded again lol..some leafs fans are so manic its crazy lol

I was actually a long-time hater of Zach Hyman before.

But even I gotta admit...he turns into an absolute beast in the Playoffs. Probably the closest thing to a Power Forward we have

No ..there isn't always dirty work to be done...and Marner is the one back checking, stealing the puck, making plays...it would be better if he had someone else to pass to,that was skilled enough to score or be able to do more than muck it up in hopes of making a blind pass connect ...seen enough,I prefer talent!

There absolutely is always dirty work to be done. If we don’t have the puck, getting it back is dirty work. Once we get the puck, sure it’s great to have skill. You need guys like Hyman to get the puck.

I would love to have a guy like Zach Hyman, but with more skill. There’s probably 5 guys like that in the league, and the leafs don’t have any of them.

Looks like we might have snagged one from the KHL. Mikheyev’s got some skill to go with the jump to his game. Preseason’s tricky though.

Memories of Viktor Stalberg not soon forgotten.

And if our goal is to beat the bottom-dwellers...

The tougher the game, the more dirty work there is. There's a reason Boston made their come-back after Nazem Kadri was suspended and Zach Hyman blew out his knee.
Oh yeah, but Babs still had the genius idea to put Hyman out to take a critical face -off instead of the obvious choice...I would of fired Babs after that! The Hyman as a complimentary top 6 player needs to end...there are better options. And for the record...I think he would be an awesome 4th liner with some Pk time or a fill in 3rd liner. He just doesn't have offensive instincts...why keep trying,he isn't a kid learning. He is what he is!

Not the same...Miky drives to the net, skates very well.He will need to go around the block once or twice to get used to the competition, but I think he is destined for a top 6 role.

Hockey is not a skills competition.

That one year Stalberg looked WAY better though, like a world beater. It took a bit of time for this Leafs' fan to stop believing he didn't have high end potential.

I want all of these guys to succeed and I really would like to see some size on the wings. There's a fragile feeling to the performances of all 3 of Mikheyev, Korshkov and Marincin. As you alluded to, we've been down this road before.

Personally I thought Timashov's preseason performance was more projectable as something that could relied upon for an entire season.

Then why are you here discussing things? If all that matters is the cup then there's no point. Everyone/everything sucks until they win a cup, and then when they win a cup, that's it.

There's nothing else to talk or think about.
