Anybody who watches and understands hockey that in the matchup of style of game the Hawks plays into the Leafs strength. They play an open style of game which feeds right into the Leafs off the rush strength. Good goaltending tonight from Bernier and the Leafs could actually be the ones with a lob sided victory.;)

The Leafs struggle vs big gritty teams who play a dump & chase game thriving off the cycle. Teams like Boston, St. Louis... Teams like Chicago and Pittsburgh offensive go go type of teams the Leafs are a very dangerous opponent vs those types of teams.

Chicago is the best puck possession team in the league and largely controlled the flow of the games against Boston. Leafs are a bottom 5 team in possession. I get what you're trying to say but they're a different beast than Pittsburgh.

Chicago's puck possession stats almost matches Minnesota's, and we didn't do so well in terms of getting shots on net in that Minny game. Addition of JVR will help tremendously, though

Phil really hasn't sniped yet this season.

Sorry for bringing back memories of Stajan-Stempniak on Kessel's line with White (he was OK) and Finger on defense. :help:

Still, this team will put up a fight, they always do against the big boys.

I think it is the same for almost every team or even athletes in individual sports. Playing somebody better lifts your game. Sort of like the thought around here that Rielly can't get better by going back to junior.

The biggest difference against Boston was "puck pressure". When the leafs defended the lead they sit back in the neutral zone and wait for the dump in or to get beat by a move.

Chicago on the other hand is very aggressive on whomever has the puck. So, they'll have a guy attack to puck carrier. As soon as the pass is made the other guy is also right towards the puck carrier. Very aggressive and synchronized.

Remember when we were gonna destroy the Oilers and barely made it out of there with 2 points?

I see a lot of misconceptions about how Chicago plays here.

They are nothing like Pittsburgh, and are anything but "offensive go go."
The Hawks do not play an "open style." Their forecheck is usually a 1-2-2. Maybe you were thinking that because they're a very aggressive transition team, but that's not systemic; rather, it has everything to do with the players they have (a very good group of puckmoving defensemen is the key to an effective transition game, and the Hawks have a bunch of them in Keith, Seabrook, Leddy, and Oduya).
They made their hay last season by being the best defensive and puck possession team in the league. They had a great offense as well, but that was by virtue of having great players, not from an offensive system.

While some might be always looking towards the worst scenario I'm looking forward to the Leafs taking their shot at Chicago. Need to beat any kind of team that we face and this will be a good test.

A loss would suck big time after the last game

Sounds like JVR is in and Reimer is backing up which is great

Great thing about the new conferences is we get more Original six match ups like this. More Leafs vs Hawks!

Thanks for Mr Dave Bolland, he's done a fantastic job at shutting the Grabovski lovers up. Bolland is so much better of a player. He has the experience, we needed.

Get ready for a big game tonight. Hope the Leafs stay unbeaten on the road. Let's go road warriors! GO LEAFS GO!
