dmen I'd be OK with the leafs giving up a Marner/Nylander + 1st for on july 1st,2018 (with an extension in place):

Karlsson
Doughty

not ok with (both are left shot, and also are a notch above the above guys):
OEL
McDonagh

Gut your organizational depth and then give out a monster contract? Hard pass. Just wait to they reach UFA and make an offer.

they probably will do that. i really cant see the management team finally doing a proper rebuild and then abandoning it a couple years in by moving marner,nylander,liljegren,kapanen,1st rd picks etc

leafs could easily make space for a doughty/karlsson/mcdonagh/OEL next year if any of those guys wants to join what would then be a cup favorite

12/8/8 is if you're lucky. That's 28m in my books.

you need to check your books again. they're wrong.

Marner 10g/57pt pace
Nylander 15g/55pt pace

that is nowhere close to 8 mil. Ehlers got 6 coming off 64pts, Pastrnak got 6.667 coming off 34g/70pts

try to be a tad unbiased eh?

23M for all 3, Marner and Nylander will be getting around 6-6.5. 10-10.5 for Matthews.

the guy you are replying to said the only value nylander and marner have are on an ELC. obviously trying to stir the pot

Nylander 8 x6.25 (50mil)
Marner 8 x6.25 (50mil)
Matthews 8 x11.25 (90 mil)

I'm guessing 23.75/year for the 3.

Didn't Eklund call E4 or E5 Stamkos To Toronto like 10X over the last few years? No one can take this guy seriously. He had sources in Philly once upon a time but that's about it.

There is absolutely no logic for this to even be a topic of discussion. The Sens would never trade the best D-man in the league to their rival. If Dorian did this it would be the dummest move by far. Toronto can't afford Tavares at all when Matthews, Nylander and Marner get their contracts going.

This post is a waste of time and shame on you for posting an Eklund crap rumour for hit counts.

If he wants to stay in Ontario while having a reasonable chances at cup runs for the rest of his career, he can sign a deal that works with the salary structure in TO when he is a UFA.

Well in his defence. It did sound like Stamkos was pretty close to signing with Toronto.

they can afford Tavares. It’s just a matter of do you want to sign Tavares if you can or try and grab a defenceman the year after. I’d rather go for a defenceman. But they can sign either or.

Why do people keep saying Nylander and Marner are going to get $8M each?

I don't think there is any chance in heck that they will get that.

$6-6.5M each sure. Not a chance either gets $8M.

Agreed. They'll either get signed long-term at 6 or they'll get bridge-deals

Agreed entirely.

Kucherov got a 3 yr, $4.7Mper bridge.

Yes, it's going to cost Tampa quite a bit in another year, but I could see Marner/Nylander getting bridges somewhere in that range. If they play lights out during those 3 years then you deal with it then (which will be 5 years from now basically). If they play well (but not Kucherov well) then they get ~$7M or whatever after those 3 years.

Basically, they either get $6-$6.5M long term out of the gate or a Kucherov bridge type deal. Either way I don't see $8M or anywhere near that.
