Lindholm is a good PK’er and has decent hands for a 4th liner.

Petan does nothing.

The coach liked him. He elevated Lindholm to play on Kadri’s wing on more than one occasion. It’s not garbage in for garbage out if one of the players is a useful NHL’er.

Dubas looks like a fool for this one.
The Par Lindholm trade. The straw that broke the camels back.

Petan could be somewhat productive top 9 player for a non-playoff team just wanting to play some entertaining hockey for the fans (and getting some shit defensive efforts by good teams).

But on a team with playoff aspirations he just doesn't have a role. Not good enough for top 6, not hard enough on the puck for bottom 6.

A player that that has won more than half of his faceoffs is not good at them ?

That explains a lot of your posts.
He has won 43.5 % of his face-offs in his small sample size this year and just under 50% for his career. Won 10 lost 13 this year won 214 lost 216 in the NHL . Par Lindholm Stats | Hockey-Reference.com most of thos face-offs were with the Leafs. where he was slightly over 50%

Strange ?

Why ?
Because they way you cut the quote from " I don't think anyone here is saying Petan is a great player, but rather that he is at least equal to or perhaps, slightly better than Lindholm. " to just the last part obfuscates the the point. It is not only my argument but many peoples opinion on the board, and it is factual no one is saying Petan is a great player, but he is of similar value to Lindholm.

Makes sense for the player, as the OP stated...at the moment, Petan obviously is in Babcock's doghouse for whatever reason, even though he's a good player. Even then, being a good player, Timashov has looked better, and Shore & Spezza have the advantage of their faceoff ability to get them into the lineup. As we come to the end of being able to carry 23 men, with Hyman, Dermott & JT coming back, we're going to lose somebody on waivers anyways, so if we're able to even just get a pick for Petan, that's better than losing him for nothing, or letting him rot in the press-box for 70 games.

Pointing out the irony in the Leafs ‘shopping’ Petan is now anti-Leaf/hating/bashing.
No, it isn't people took issue with claiming that somehow Dubas is incompetent because of the trade: "
Career 5th liner. Waste of a roster spot.

How many times can you pick an AHL player over an NHL player and still be considered competent? Kyle Dubas has done it twice already."

Petan's bad, but Oilers winger depth is so poor that he could be an upgrade there.

Just said it on HNIC 2nd intermission. Looking to find him another team where he will get playing time ala the Leivo trade.
The Bigger issue is Hyman and Dermott are ready to return from injury reserve and Leafs are about $3mill over the cap. Waiving Pétan gets you to $2.2m over. So who else has to go?

So you're basically stating that Dubas erred in signing him ?
Giving him a shot literally cost nothing. Becoming committed to a player that isn't working out would be an error, but he didn't do that. He turned it into another potential positive.

A player that that has won more than half of his faceoffs is not good at them ?
He's below 50% in his career, and even worse in high-impact situations.

You’re not getting anything more than what you got for Leivo for him.

Rangers have Brendan f***ing Smith in their bottom 6. I’d take a flyer on Petan as a Ranger fan.

Trade you someone like Gabriel Fontaine or Brandon Carley for him
