Shaft of the stick definitely was in contact with the face.

His glove tapped him on the visor, but the shaft of his stick did not come into contact. There was absolutely no extension of the arms by the defender either to create any sort of force. The dude ran into the defender with the intent to flop.

He skated into a stick that a player was holding at waist height. It may not be a dive but there is no way that would be a penalty on the player holding the stick. The ref should have just let the whole thing go.

How much does it hurt the face when the stick hits their mid-chest area? That was nowhere near the face. 100% a dive.

It's 1000% a dive but he puts his head into the gloves of #44, could have taken a bit of stick to the nose.

He’s not a Leafs prospect, but alright.
He's a 23 year old mediocre minor leaguer on a one year AHL contract who happens to be playing in Toronto and will likely never get an NHL deal. This thread wouldn't get many clicks if "Leafs" wasn't in the title.

What I want to know is why someone who is apparently 6'5" was in position to drive his face into a waist-high stick. What a strange play.

Terrible call.

I hate the diving penalty so much. It requires refs to determine intent, which is impossible.

It's yet another example of the NHL (or in this case the AHL) trying to fix something that wasn't broken.

Is there a Ribeiro-level tantrum? Fine, give him an unsportsmanlike.

Based on his time with the Canes (so not very recent) the striking thing about Elynuik is that he doesn't use that 6'5" frame at all. He's actually a pretty slim-built guy, kind of a goose on skates, so he's not especially strong on the puck and seems to struggle with balance. This play really, really highlights those issues.

4 points in 6 games and 14 Penalty minutes. Is he finding any kind of game?

Since Nylander scored both goals against Calgary and was born in Calgary... is there anyway of giving this Calgary-born player an NHL contract that only covers Calgary games?
