Leafs.
Team like that should have walked through the Northern Division on paper. But that's why it's not played on paper.

Edmonton was just a bad team that got propped up by a generational talent and a 40 year old goalie standing on his head. Losing record against playoff teams in a terrible division, sub 50% analytics.

The Leafs were up 3 - 1. Edmonton lost 4 straight, but all 4 games were close (game 1 was a one goal game until empty netters, 2 - 4 were OT), not to mention that by many metrics, the Oilers outplayed the Jets. The Oilers lost because the Jets have more depth scoring, and because the Jets got better goaltending (not blaming Smith, he was great too).

What kind of revisionist history garbage is this?

Oilers were the heavy, heavy favourites. They dummied the Jets all year and were absolutely expected to crush a team with a questionable defense that was held together by a vezina level goalie bailing them out all year and was missing one of their best forwards to start the series.

Picks for each first-round NHL playoff series had 13/16 people picking the Oilers
Stanley Cup Playoffs predictions had had 14/16 people picking the Oilers

2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs First Round Series Odds, Preview, and Picks betting odds had the Oilers as heavy favourites too

The Jets were absolutely in no way expected to win that series. They were heavy underdogs.
Oilers were upset by Jets sure and choked one game where they were leading by 3 goals.
Leafs simply choked.

The oilers situation was shocking for sure but the leafs loss was dramatic in that it pulled the rug out underfoot because it seemed like the series was well in hand.

It was like watching 2 people racing and one of them appeared much faster and in a considerable lead, and then ends up with their shorts falling down around their ankles right before the finish line

Obviously it's the Leafs, most people thought they'd roll right over the Habs, whereas the Oilers we're a 50/50 against the Jets
Them getting swept on was a shock though

Everyone kinda knew the Oilers weren't very good. The Leafs were hoping for a cup. The Oilers loss was more pathetic, but since both are still out first round, the Leafs was worse.

I am biased but the Leafs lost to a team that should not have been in the playoffs--Jets had a lot of good players

They were heavy favorites in the mind of the Oilers fans perhaps, but anyone who know hockey could have tell that they were clearly not stacked enough to go far.

Toronto was actually stacked. That's the difference.

it wasn't the oilers fans picking them to beat the jets, it was everyone

i literally linked 2 articles where 27/32 people picked the oilers to win

i didn't say anything about toronto, it's just complete bullshit reading about how the jets were actually favourites when that's absolutely not true

32/32 people picked the leafs to win so they were even heavier favourites
