Friedman: "Just wanted to tie a final bow on something that’s been in this blog a couple of times. Other NHL teams have been told Toronto has a verbal commitment from Russian defenceman Igor Ozhighanov. He can sign after April 30"

Leafs stockpiling assets for free, mgmt has looked at getting undervalued players through FA and draft. Projects to be somewhere around a #4 dman (Someone said to expect a player between Zaitsev and Antipin), but has elite tools lacking much of a tool box, so if Babs can teach him the game he could fly by that. Won or competed in the hardest shot competition in the KHL, and can lay big hits.

Was Zaitsev's D partner in the KHL before Zaitsev came here. Only reason he isn't putting up points this season is due to his team signing a bunch of ex-NHLers, creating a situation where there's too much players for too little ice time.

KHL page has him at 14:19 this year and 17:32 last year which is over 3 minutes difference. Not sure how to find the PP TOI but that could be a major factor. 6 of his 8 goals(Can't find the assist numbers) last year were PP goals. This year none(he hasn't scored).

The guy is 25yo 6th season KHL vet.

Should trade for 24yo Yak, if Babs can teach old dogs new tricks.:laugh::laugh:
