Long time reader, first time poster. I was looking at our current roster recently and decided to take a deeper look at our whole organazation. I knew Burke had a preference to draft North American born players but was surprised on how loaded our team was with canadian boys. I have always loved the way Chicago and Anaheim have been built with a ton of canadian kids. Here is a quick break down of who we have currently and who coming up through the system.

Leafs:

15 - CDN
6 - USA
3 - RUS (Grabo, Komarov & Kulemin)
1 - GER
1 - SWE

Marlies/Junior/Europe:

23 - CDN
10 - USA
4 - SWE
1 - FIN

Overall im really excited about the furutre as i truly believe you have a better chance of winning if you have more canadians on your team.

Grabo is from Belarus not Russia.
Komarov was born in Estonia and raised in Finland.

But what's the difference where a player comes from?

I dont care what country of origin our players/prospects are from...

EXCEPT when it comes to pointing out how much of an uninformed blowhard Cherry is. I cant believe people actually like this guy. CBC has a pretty terrible broadcast... Cherry, Healy, Milbury? Seriously? Its literally a bunch of guys whose discussions revolve around who can yell the loudest and say the most uninformed things.

I know who the winner is.

People love Cherry. I don't but others do.

However, I have always found the dialogue interesting. So proceed. :D

Milbury wasn't on CBC last year and isn't on there this year.

I wonder if the OP has ever noticed that the teams at the bottom of the league also have a lot of Canadians on them. :sarcasm:

I added them together for simplicity.

Komarov was born in Estonia (then in the Soviet Union) to Russian parents.

Grabovski was born in Potsdam, East Germany. The family returned to their native Belarus (then a Soviet Socialist Republic) when he was three years old. Grabovski is a russian name too i might add.

Was pointing out the types of guys theyve had on CBC in recent memory, not necessarily this season. I guess I could have been more clear, though message is still the same.

TSN doesnt have a single blowhard broadcaster. Not a single one. They are able to give criticism, disagree, have legitimate discussions, but they dont just make stuff up and they dont have yelling contests. Not to mention their insiders actually are insiders. McKenzie, Dreger, and LeBrun are probably the top 3 in the business for legitimate inside information as opposed to just rampant speculation camouflaged as inside info. I look forward to the days that they start acquiring more and more broadcasting rights.

Seriously though whats your point? Need I remind you that our previous captain was not just a Swede, but a former 1st overall draft pick, who is a franchise leader in points, goals, PP goals, SH goals, GWGs and is tied for the NHL record for overtime goals?

Only time I care about a players nationality is during the Olympics, WJC, World Cup. When it comes to the Leafs, I'm cheering for the jersey and what's on front. Don't care where they're from.

My point? Take a look....how many arent Canadian? The more Canadians you have the better chance of winning you have and certainly if the majority of your elite players are Canadian. There are exceptions of course ie. Detroit
