Incorrect. He's a 2000
And that matters how? He has to be 20 by September 15 to be eligible to play in the AHL, no?

"This rule is based on the NHL and CHL Agreement, which states a signed player aged 18 or 19 who was claimed from a CHL club and is not retained by the NHL club, must be assigned to the CHL junior club whom he last played for or owes a contractual obligation."

I think they’re only ineligible if they’re 19 and under and their birthday has already passed (they don’t turn 20 until next year). Evan Bouchard didn’t turn 20 until October 20th and he has been with Bakersfield all year.

It goes by birthyear for whatever reason. So a late 2000 CHL pick could play next year even if he actually hasn't turned 20 by 9/15. Vegas pick Nic Hague is an example off the top of my head; December '98 birthday but was eligible to play in the AHL in 2018-19.

He had a strong camp with the Devils and has looked quite good in his first couple of games in the AHL. Superb skater, strong and physical, and while he's not a puck rusher, he moves it out of the zone accurately and quickly and can skate it out if he needs to. Really like this guy.
Man, if both Him and Bahl become something for the Devils it will sure be interesting. We probably will have to get better at the penalty kill though since refs now seem to call penalty on clean hits.
