The 2002 born 5'10 defenseman Lukas Cormier has been playing on the first D pairing in Charlottetown. He's a very smooth skating and promising defenseman with good puck skills. Right now he has 18 points, 8 goals and 10 assists in 36 games in the Q.

Tools remind me of something in between Mete and Girard. Not maybe as good skater as Girard though. Not seen enough to comment about his hockey sense.

I can’t say I have ever specifically watched him play but 15 goals and 34 points with games to play as a D-1 defenceman is quite impressive.

He had an incredible rookie season with the Charlottetown Islanders claiming some top spots in some CHL Rookie D records. I wonder where he goes in the 2020 NHL Draft he seems like an exciting player to many.

What was his injury? His point falloff after injury compared to before is puzzling?

He was over ppg before injury. With 15 points in 13 games. Leaves 21 pts in 31 games after. Big change in ratio. 1.15 ppg to 0.67ppg.

I definitely wouldn't call his skating suspect. He doesn't have Hughes or Makar speed but hes a really good skater. He has great agility and edgework and he is a very elusive skater.

it was an interesting point I agree, but speed isnt everything for small dman neither. Victor Mete has blazing speed, but it's not getting him anywhere fast so far.

His skating is his best asset IMO. What concerns me is his lack of offensive imagination. Good passer, but he lacks that "it” factor that guys like Girard and Brannstrom have. He’s a solid two-way dman, but at 5’10 I’m not sure how that translates. He’s a tough guy to project.

You must mean Brannstrom in Junior. Brannstrom has great edges, IQ .. but not great speed by any means.

Big fan of his on-puck play on offense. I really like his ability to generate attacks, and I do like his off puck movements as well, and I think Cormier is going to be a player who will be dangerous on the rush. The kid is gonna be a big threat in neutral zone play. On his own end, he isn't anything to write home about how insane he can be shutting the opposing player's down but he has really progressed in his own zone as the season went on. He's a good skater too.

Yeah I think this nicely sums it up. He's got very good mobility and agility, but he currently lacks some power in his stride to be super fast. It's probably something he's working on as he'll really need that if he wants to be successful.
