Probably one of the more underated prospects out there right now, quietly had a fantastic WJC, too me looks to have top 4 NHL potential.

I still don't understand why Jets didn't take him in the fourth round? Why did they draft more forwards?

Feel like this kid's night needs to be talked about. Had his NHL debut last game against the Flyers, where he got 12 minutes and apparently had a decent showing. Tonight against the Canucks:

-17 minutes, all at even strength. (3rd most ES minutes of any Edmonton DMan)

-Corsi of 24-3. Fenwick of 16-2. Scoring chances with him on the ice: 13-1. Only 2 of his zone starts were in the offensive zone. 5 neutral, 4 defensive. (I honestly wondered if those #'s were a mistake at first glance, because they're that good)

He took a penalty and had a bad giveaway, and wasn't getting the most difficult minutes, but I think the most impressive thing is that in only his 2nd game, a coach that's as big of a defensive hardass as Hitch decided to play him that much and give him that big of a jump in minutes.

Just one game so it doesn't mean much, but interesting nonetheless.

He was solid in his first 2 games. Smooth skater, smart, quick first pass that he gets off cleanly, decent shot that hits the net, good in all 3 zones.

Agreed- similarly to his brother I think what stands out about him is his skating. (Obviously he's well behind Seth in other aspects, as are most guys in the league) But he's so smooth and fast for a defenseman I thought he looked really good at buying that extra foot of open space with the puck and closing down rushes. Guess that shouldn't be too surprising with the athletic genes the two are working with.

He isn't a complete burner but he is very smooth and good on his edges. He has good top end speed and acceleration but it's his agility that stands out to me.

This kid is the real deal.

Great skater, good passer, decent shot that he gets on net. Good in his own zone but knows when to effectively jump up into the rush. Activates real well from the blueline and makes really good small plays away from and with the puck. Plays both sides. Has filled in well on the 2nd pair of our injury riddled defense. Played really well in the game against the top team in the league - Tampa. Looking like a steal rn!

Called up because of injuries, but he's really made his minutes count. 25-4 ES corsi tonight. The Canucks put 1 shot on net in the 17 minutes he was on the ice.

Moreover, more of his minutes were against the Boeser/Pettersson line than against any other, and he was on the ice with the McDavid/Drai line for only 7 of his 17 minutes.

it really did shock me to see how low he went in the draft. I get it, he wasn't as high end as his bro Seth, but everything you are seeing now you saw then...just a smooth skating, big wing span, confident puck moving defensemen...the kid usually makes the right plays at the right times and rarely gets caught out of position..he is perfect for today's NHL, Oilers have a real good one here.

When I watched him play in juniors he seemed like the perfect modern day defenceman. Didn't have the best +/- last year but that is mostly due to how bad Bakersfield was.

Wonder if part of it was just getting overshadowed by Werenski and Hanifin, and then McAvoy and Fox in his last 2 seasons in the development program. Those teams were so deep with defensemen looking back on them.

He was great against the Pettersson line last night. His skating is exceptional & made it hard for petey to find space. already top 4 defenseman on the oilers in my eyes.

That suck for Caleb because he will likely loose his spot and return to the AHL whit the arrival of Petrovic and Manning....

Thats weird because im sure Jones is a better defender than they are.

Try again, he was bumped up to top pair and put up some solid possession numbers. He's not losing a spot to them, the kid's sheltering them

Chip of his big bro’s block...feel like Bear got a lot of hype based on a cup of tea at the end of last season but Jones has always been a way better prospect. Wouldn’t surprise me if Bear remains a tweener or specialist long-term but Jones will be a top 4 all-situation stud for the next decade.

Hopefully he turns into something for the Oilers on the back end.. It's needed bigtime and Oils are due for some defensemen luck...

Alot of dmen stress always with this damn team!!

He looks like he has clear top 4 upside. Fantastic skater and a fairly smart player as well. Still needs some refinement like all young D but he’s been good.

I love the guy and really hope he keeps it rolling... Bear last season gave everyone the warm and fuzzies too and had everyone hyped up

Seems like he has won over Hitch tho and that will go a VERY long way as long as Hitch is around

Hitch is really high on him from everything that’s been reported. He’s an easy guy to root for, competitive and skilled.
