Easy calling him a 2 way defender. Offensively he is elite and is an beautiful skater. His vision, passing and shot are all tops for defenders in the AMBHL.

Defensively he is all over the map... Literally. His positioning needs serious work as he at times looks like a winger that is more concerned about offence. Lucky for him his speed and mobility help him get back to defend at the Bantam level. We'll see how that goes in the WHL. With all that said he is still going to go top 5 in this year's WHL draft.

My personal top 5 so far is:

1. Kirby Dach
2. Peyton Krebs
3. Bowen Byram
4. Sasha Mutala
5. Logan Barlage

He's been great for team Red all tourney and an anchor already for Vancouver. Byram is also one of the younger players for the 19 draft so he'll definitely fill out as his father is a big guy.

He's looked good this tourny and has been a driving force for Canada Red the last period and a half. 2019 looks to be an interesting draft, but Byram should be fighting with Vlasic to be the first D off the board.

Still on top!

Look for Matthew Robertson to be right there with Byram for the top guys on defence out of the WHL.

Looks like he may be a good name to watch for 2019. Still a couple seasons for him to make his mark in a junior league.

2019 prospect, 3rd OA pick in the bantam draft last year and he hasn't dissapointed thus far. Potential high pick in next year's NHL draft.

Putting on a show tonight so far vs Calgary. 1st goal he took a nice pass from Benson and completely undressed the goalie for his 1st goal. Then he made an amazing read and pass to Ronning for an assist. Topped it off with a bar down rocket from the point for his 2nd goal. He's showing amazing flashes and if those flashes become consistent watch out

Wasn't sure if people though he was better than Chychrun, Bouchard, Dobson, or Makar or not.
Chychrun was held in higher regard a year from his draft, but we all know what happened there. He has a good chance to be the best one in recent years, and even better than Ekblad at the time of his draft, although that will be a tall task. The real challenge is can he be as good as Doughty at the time of his draft, as he was the last truly elite Canadian CHL defenceman at his draft date, I'd also say Pietrangelo was probably better than any other Canadain CHL defender since at their draft date.

As of right now (very early), I'm not seeing the hype around him. His positioning is terrible and his shot is pretty average. Certainly doesn't look like a top 10 pick.
