LCA once again passed over for All-Star game

UBS Arena (opened 2021) is hosting the 2026 NHL All-Star game, as the NHL once again passes over Detroit.

When was the last time you heard of a brand new NHL/NBA arena that did not get an All-Star Game or Draft within its first 7 years of existence?

Now, I'm almost certain that this has to do with the embarrassingly slow "progress" of District Detroit, which to this day remains absolutely nothing but fading tarps and parking lots. But am I the only one who is irritated by this?

All-Star game has never registered with me so I don't care. It will be in Detroit eventually. More money to be made in NYC/Long Island market.

Yup on both points. Fans are happier traveling to destination cities for the All Star game. I wouldn't be surprised if Vegas gets it again before LCA does.

Ilitch isn't making a big fuss because the profit goes towards player pension. He'd make way more money by getting this team into the playoffs.

I don't really care about the All Star Game, though I definitely find it weird that they haven't had it there in the new arena.

In the last 20 years it's been in Florida 3 times. It hasn't been in Detroit since 1980. I wouldn't hold your breath.

Since the host usually have a few players attend the the ASG, it is probably a good idea to wait until we have a few that can attend.

Detroit is never going to get another ASG or Draft. Multiple teams have had 5 total in the last 30 years, Detroit hasn't had one since 1987. The players barely want to go as is and they'd probably mutiny if they had to spend an entire weekend in Detroit.

ASG is a very distant third to the World Juniors and draft in my eyes. I seriously doubt we will ever host the draft either given that seems to be a hospitality type of event and, well, people just don't go to Detroit for that.

Interest in the game or not, the revenue generated for the City, and the peaked interest of the fan base to have an opportunity to meet and see all of this talent makes this something I hope occurs.

eh if Detroit can host the NFL draft I don't see why they couldn't host events for the much smaller NHL

This thread has some really funny potential.

I always point to hotel access but I'm not sure if that had changed over the years.

I also don't really care but I'm that dude in the family who never wants to host anything because I don't want to have to clean up after you selfish bastards. I'd rather help you clean up your place.
