Lot of teams who still need to get to the playoffs though. Gaudreau can help any time get there at the very least. If he has someone to help insulate him in the playoffs, he should be fine. So if he’s the only puck carrier on the line then yes, he’ll probably struggle in the playoffs or be relegated to a PP specialist.

Yah he's a skilled reg season player. I really think his role won't be as prominent on whatever team he's traded to though.

Value shouldn't be too high for Johnny. He's a proven no-show in the playoffs, any teams adding him obviously want to win in the playoffs and will have to peg his value as someone who won't help at all in that regard.

"Proven no show in the playoffs". If you completely forget 2015 or 2020 exist

I think it’ll be the same. He’s one of the top scoring forwards of his generation. Wherever he could end up, he’d likely be one of their top 2 wingers. Maybe his role will take a hit in the playoffs, but if he has a Kopitar style center to play with, I think his flaws will be less apparent.

Nope and the original one was bogus to begin with.

Stop spreading FUD. Renaud Lavoie is a more than legit source. He's a top guy on Sportsnet's Franco partner channel. He has definite sources and has been proven correct quite often.

Yeah except Tampa is filled with small skilled players. Actually, Kucherov, Hedman and Point were the biggest reasons they won and none of these guys are bruisers. 2 of 3 are under 6 feet tall.

Hedman's 6'6" and a bull out there. Last year they got bounced nice and early with your boys then they went and got Maroon, Coleman and Goodrow for this go 'round with the result that we know. Toughness matters, also Point may be smallish but the kid is tough.

He’s one of the top scoring forwards of his generation.

Jebus. You sure do love you some Johnny Hockey.

Has there been any more recent news/rumors since Lavoie first reported on this over a week ago? I've not heard much on Gaudreau at all lately....wonder if this is still likely to happen

I really don't think we'll trade Gaudreau, BT said he won't trade players just to say "look we're a different team now". I think the organization is ready to run it back with the same forward core, whether that's for better or worse, I don't know. Would like to see us add a Top 6 RHS though.

I don't think he is going anywhere.

It wasn't even reported by Calgary media, and the only place it's become a thing online is this website. Gaudreau isn't on the trade boards on most sites. Most Calgary related things I've heard have had teams calling about Gaudreau/Monahan, but Calgary isn't initiating anything. It never was a reliable rumour.

I don't have a lot of comments on your stuff on Johnny. He is what he is. An electric playmaker who struggles with other elements in the game. On Lavoie. He is a bit of a joke for non-Hab related stuff. Almost everything he says outside of that market has no validity. He's basically the Pat Steinberg of Montreal.

Calgary probably would trade Johnny if the market wasn't so bad.

Possibly. But the market is bad. A bonafide top 4 defenseman went for a 5th. If Calgary wants to change the core they should revisit it at the TDL.
